What a busy time we have had in school these past few weeks! Not only have we been busy with literacy and numeracy but we have also been busy getting ready for the Christmas show!

Here is a very smart P1 making and reading his own sentence – how clever.

Look at these wonderful angels – we have been learning about the important news that the angel gave to Mary and the important news that the angel gave to the shepherds.

You will have seen us on the stage on Monday – weren’t we just superb? Our teacher was so proud of us and she could not stop smiling at us when we were singing and saying our lines and dancing on stage. It was a great show.

Also this week, we have been designing and making in the STEM zone. W made some models then tested them out to see if they would move!

We worked on our own and with friends. It was interesting to share ideas and help each other with the designs.

On Thursday, we had our party. It was an amazing afternoon and everyone loved the dancing, party games and we even had a visit from Santa ! Amazing!!!

Everyone in Primary 1 has had a fantastic first two terms and has learned so much in this time. We hope everyone has a brilliant Christmas and comes back safe and ready for more fun and challenges in the new year! Mrs Carlin will miss us terribly over these two weeks and will be looking forward to hearing all of our news in the new term.

Here we are at our play area after a very busy week. This week, we have worked hard in addition, and using tally marks. Also we have been working hard in literacy with our reading and writing skills. Everyone is improving all of the time and we are all very proud of ourselves.

Please come to our Christmas fayre on Saturday and buy some of these Christmas wreaths that we made all by ourselves. They are a real bargain.

In our maths this week we have been learning how to add two sets within ten and sometimes within twenty. We have been learning to read the number stories we have  made and have learned the + and the  = signs.

In our class our learning is fun, we listen to  explanations, practice new skills through games and activities and get additional help if needed.

How many altogether?

Count both sets to add altogether.

Adding two sets creates a bigger set.

We can add two sets together.

I know how to read an addition story.

Also this week we were reading with our buddies and have begun to look for words we know and read along with our buddies when we can.

Remember Hoots Owls??? We decided to recall what the white barn owl looked like

and using the internet, we explored photos of other barn Owls. Afterwards, we used sponges to paint a little white barn owl.

Here we are working as a cooperative group to make a dragon. In the morning,we explored descriptive words for dragons, just like we did last week for Owls, then we wrote our dragon descriptions. Following on from this,we put our ideas into action add created our own dragon. We used a variety of different materials too as we have been exploring materials as part of our IDL topic.

In primary 1 last week, we had four amazing STAR WRITERS –

They wrote stories about being brave! We are reading a book called, “The knight who said, NO!” and in it there is a little brave knight called Ned. We wanted to explore what this word meant so we wrote stories about being brave.

Also, here we are listening to and reading with our buddies at paired reading time, it is always a very peaceful and enjoyable part of the week.

In maths, we are exploring 3D shape and can name most of the shapes now. We wanted to use the shapes to build a castle just like the one Ned lived in long ago in our story.

Once again in number work, we are learning the number names and do this through games and activities with our friends.

As it was Halloween , we read some stories about witches and then made these scary witch faces to take home and scare our families!

In the play area, we played with a variety of activities and had fun playing and learning with our friends.
