Primary 4

Primary 4s assembly was this week and we worked hard to prepare and learn our lines and songs. We looked forward to our families coming to see us.

As part of our enterrpise this term, we baked our own shortbread to sell at our assembly. We followed a traditional Scottish recipe to bake this shortbread. It was lots of fun!

Primary 1 update.

We have been very busy as usual in P1. Here are a few photos to show what we have been doing this past week.

Symmetrical poppy printing.

Symmetrical poppy painting.

A little touch of glitter and sequins.

Look at these wonderful patterns.

We love the colours of the fireworks.

Brilliant firework artwork.

Bright colours and patterns.

Sparkly firework pictures.

For Developing the Young Workforce week, we listened to what people do every day in their jobs….

Listening to the Physiotherapist and the Optician explaining their jobs.

The Optician told us what she does to help people who need glasses.

The Optician showed us some of the special glasses she uses to help people with the eye tests.

Hoots Owls came to our school and we found out about the job of Falconry.

Everyone got to hold the owls. We were not allowed to pet them as it damages their feathers.

The Falconry job sounded very interesting and the owls were very well cared for.

We asked questions about the owls and we gathered a lot of information from Gillian who looked after the owls.

Our class bear visited Arthur’s Seat this weekend with this adventurous P1.

He also visited Balmaha and enjoyed the view of Loch Lomond.

Week beginning 11th November

Well done to the two fabulous pupils above who have been rewarded for their gifts and talents- congratulations from all of your friends at St Bart’s!

A huge thank you to all of our business partners who contributed their time and effort towards making our pupils’ Developing the Young Workforce week a huge success. Mrs McLean has worked tirelessly over the past few months to create wonderful experiences during Developing  the Young Workforce week for all of our pupils- all of this hard work is very much appreciated! Please keep your eye on twitter and class pages for up to date pictures and records of events.

The week ahead looks like this:

On Tuesday, Ms Doyle will attend a cooperative learning course. We look forward to hearing about the benefits for our pupils. Our Primary 7 pupils are paying a visit to Guidi’s in Coatbridge so that they can learn how to make pizza. Fingers crossed that they bring back some of the fruits of their labours!

On Wednesday, I will be attending a meeting in  our Headquarters for all Central area Head Teacher’s for business updates. I will also meet with some of our catering managers in the afternoon to discuss recent initiatives.

On Thursday, Mrs McLean and I will be interviewing for a part time ASNA post in the school. We look forward to meeting all of the candidates and welcoming them to our fabulous school. Sally Wilkinson will be providing the weekly Kodaly input for Primary 5 today . We welcome Sally Dale today, who will be visiting Primary 5 to support our pupils. Vicky Marshall from Community Learning and Development will be hosting her first parent and child cookery workshop after school today – thank you Vicky! What a wonderful opportunity for our pupils and their families….

On Friday, I will be visiting Primary 5 to share in their learning and very much look forward to this. Our primary 7 pupils will be visiting St Ambrose High today in order to familiarise themselves with the building and take part in Stem activities with the science department. Primary 6b Update

We have had a busy few weeks in primary 6b.

Last week we celebrated All Saints’ Day on Friday by attending mass.

In our topic, we looked at where Spain is on a map in relation to the rest of Europe and also where it is in relation to us.

This week as part of Developing the Young Workforce week (DYW) we took part in lots of different activities. At the beginning of the week we thought about the skills and attributes we would need for the jobs we want to do in the future and then went on to write our own CVs.

On Thursday, we were joined by Young Inventors Scotland, where we had to think,
invent, build and present our very own inventions. This was great fun!

Finally, on Friday we attended the upper school Careers Fayre where we were joined by Fire Services, Police Scotland, a law practise and a physiotherapist but to name a few.
Also, we took part in a whole school assembly to showcase our inventions to the rest of the school from the day before and we loved every minute!

Primary 4

We’ve had another busy week in P4.

We enjoyed making witches potions for Halloween adding lots of weird and wonderful ingredients and loved watching the cauldron bubble! We then wrote out own spells and potions- some to make your teacher fly!

As part of our Scotland topic we learned about famous tartans and even created our own kilts! We enjoyed being creative with the horizontal and vertical lines.

Today we attended mass with the whole school for All Saints Day and celebrated the lives of the saints who are in heaven.

Primary 6b update

We have been hard at work this week in Primary 6b after our lovely week off.
We are all well rested and ready to start another great term!

We started off this week with a visit from the local police and fire department to remind about keeping safe with Guy Fawkes night approaching💥.

We began our new topic and we will be learning all about the country of Spain 🇪🇸. We began to think about the things which we already know about Spain which was far more than we initially thought!

In maths, we have been learning all about rounding and adjusting multiplication sums with Mrs MacIntyre which we were super at!

We had a ball at the Halloween Disco and our costumes were fantastic!

Lastly, we are so excited to have won Cool Class Cup this week and are looking forward to using the Cool Class games this week. 🏅🏆
