Tuesday 31st March 2020

Good Morning Primary 3,

Hope we are up and ready to learn. Lets start the day with some exercise. You could try some go noodle videos or even try out Joe Wicks at 9:00 am on YouTube.

Today from 10:00 am there will be some new Sumdog challenges for you to try. These will be spelling and reading challenges. This is something we haven’t tried before so give it your best shot! Remember if it seems too tricky at first sumdog is just trying to set itself to the correct level for you.

For Maths today you can access Study Ladder for a money challenge. If you don’t have your log in yet remember to email me and I will get it sent to you.

Some of you have already been in touch to ask for a list of spelling words to revise. Please continue to email me and I will send these to you.

Most importantly boys and girls remember to have fun and stay safe!

Tuesday 31st March- Primary 1b

Good morning boys and girls 🙂

Yesterday was another beautiful Spring day. If you are outside today, see how many signs of Spring you can spot. You could even draw or paint a picture of Spring when you get back inside.

Remember I have set you a spelling and reading challenge on Sumdog to work on this week.       I have also set up a Maths competition for our class. Take part and test your amazing skills. I will keep a close eye on Sumdog each day this week and announce the winner of our competition on Friday. Good luck everyone!

Remember to keep active and have fun! Tuesday is our PE day so why not try the Joe Wicks workout, Jump Start Jonny or even some Cosmic Yoga.

We enjoy practising counting to 100 in ones in class with Jack Hartmann. Why not try this at home and ask someone in your house to join in!

Spread some joy by showing kindness today. You could help your mum and dad with any jobs around the house.

Enjoy your day boys and girls. Have fun and keep smiling!

Miss McEleney 🙂

Primary 6 – Tuesday 31st March

Good morning Primary 6,

How did you get on with yesterday’s maths challenge?

Mrs. McIntosh bought eye-liner for £4.20, hair conditioner for £5.55 and face cream for £3.79.

How much change did she get from three £5 notes and what coins could she have been paid in?

You find the answer by adding all of the costs together £4.20+£5.55+£3.79  to make £13.54

Then subtracting that from 3x£5 = £15

£15 – £13.54 = £1.46

So Mrs. McIntosh gets £1.46 in change.

There are a few different ways to make this in coins but the one which uses the least number of coins is

£1, 20p, 20p, 5p and 1p

Here’s Cressida Cowell reading Chapters 5 and 6 of “How to Train your Dragon”

Old Wrinkly says that the times call for a new kind of hero and he implies that Hiccup could be that hero. Compare and contrast the two ways of being a hero that Old Wrinkly talks about. The old way followed by characters like Snotlout and Professor Yobbish and the new way that Hiccup could show them.

Keep practising your key spelling words and try to add other words in the same family.

For example – lightning, light, lighten, lighting

I added some new learning pods on Studyladder you should have a look at. Remember you can switch from one pod to another and go back when you want to.

Here’s a maths starter for today.

I started adding work to Studyladder at twenty to four and finished at twenty past five.

How long did I spend on Studyladder in minutes?

How long did I spend on Studyladder in hours? (This is trickier)

Mr. Mcintosh

P5/4 – Tuesday 31st March

Good morning boys and girls!

I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday and managed to get out – perhaps into your garden for a play.

Today I’d like you to go out and exercise in your garden if you can or join in on one of the many workouts – perhaps Joe Wicks or Jumpstart Jonny.

Keep up with the Sumdog, Firstnews and Studyladder activities.

Have a go at these mental maths questions.  Remember try to answer them without writing your working down.

I will post the answers today at 3pm.

I would also like you to say a prayer for everyone who is sick and is in need of our prayers.  Why don’t we all stop what we are doing at 12.30pm if we can and say the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.  Remembering to keep those who are sick in our thoughts.

Take care boys and girls,

Mrs Grant 🙂

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Good morning P5. Let’s make the most of our day today.

Please spend a short time working towards challenges set on Sumdog, First News and Studyladder. Have you completed some tasks from your grid? Select  a challenge that you think you might enjoy for today.
I have added this week’s spelling words to Sumdog Spelling. Please spend time revising focus words.

I have signed up to a fabulous maths resources that we will be using in the coming weeks called Rigour Maths. This resources will provide you with video teaching clips for second level concepts in maths. You simply watch the clip, record examples and try the challenges set in your jotter. You must pause the clip as you work on the set examples. Next week I will also provide you with an online textbook page that will go along with the learning clips. For today I would like you to familiarise yourself with the online clip about negative numbers. To access the clip simply cut and paste/ copy the address below into the URL at the top of your search page. https://youtu.be/a5fhef4uV9Y
Please let me know how you get on with this activity by replying to this post.

If you have Lego at home perhaps you will enjoy today’s engineering challenge:
EYE LEGO Engineering Design Challenge: Amazing Mazes
Challenge: Create a maze that a marble can run through including turns, tunnels, and dead ends to make the maze difficult to navigate.
Engineering Goals:
The maze must have a defined start point and end point. Make sure that you make a plan before you build, just like an engineer would!
Engineers make plans before they build, but those plans often change and evolve during the design process. Good luck!

Try to get your body moving today. How many of each exercise can you do in one minute: squats, star jumps, sit ups, push ups, burpies?

I would love to see more pics of your home activities on St Barbara’s Twitter page.

Please spend some quiet time today and say a Hail Mary and an Our Father for all NHS workers.

If you have any questions, please get in touch. Feel free to send me an email to tell me what you have been learning: louisehaughey@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk.

Stay safe and keep smiling. Mrs H x

Mental Maths Answers

Good afternoon boys and girls,

As promised, I have uploaded the answers to the mental maths questions.  How well did you do?  I will post another few questions tomorrow for you to try.

Bye!

Mrs Grant 🙂

P4/3 afternoon update 30/3/20

Hi again boys & girls!

I hope you are enjoying your day so far!

I’ve come across a great little page called Lingobox learning on fb.  You will need an adult to show you this, but there are great little videos on learning a new language.  Lots of fabulous songs which you know I love!

Also, just a reminder to go onto studyladder.  You were all given your usernames and passwords.

And, last thing – for all the dancers out there, “the ballet coach” on Instagram and you tube (again get an adult to do this with you) is a great class to do in the mornings and afternoons.  My girls and I have been dong them and I think I’m ready for my tutu now!! 😉

Stay safe everyone!

God bless.

Mrs Graham x

Monday 30th March

Good morning P4/3!

Spring is definitely here!  What a glorious morning.  I hope you all had a lovely weekend and got outside to enjoy the weather!  Today, I would like you to take your learning outside if you can.  I have attached a spring scavenger hunt for you!  When you complete this, you should try making one of your own for other family members.  Perhaps you could do it on a computer and email it to family members and friends.

Spring is all about new beginnings and although this is a strange time for us all, I would like you to think about all the new things you are learning at home or things that you would like to learn.  For example, baking a cake, learning to knit or sew, planting seeds in the garden.  Make a list and as the weeks go by you can tick them off.  It would also be nice for you to keep a journal, record your activities and thoughts and feelings.  You could do this too by taking photos of your “home schooling time” and create a collage or photo book. Don’t forget to upload some of your activities and accomplishments to twitter so I can see how you are doing – I look forward to these and they put a big smile on my face!

Keep up with your grid tasks, First News and Sum dog.

Enjoy your morning!  I will pop on later this afternoon with another little message!

Mrs Graham
