We have a special birthday boy in our class today!
Happy birthday Jack 🎈🎂
We hope you have had a wonderful day filled with plenty of birthday cake🎂
Love Miss McEleney and all your friends in P1b 😀
Good morning everyone 😀
It’s Thursday and you have all wowed me with your amazing efforts already this week🌟 Reading your replies and tweets has put a giant smile on my face. I am missing you all but you are all continuing to make me very proud to be your teacher. Keep it up Superstars!
I would like you to start off today with our morning prayer. I would also like you to say a Hail Mary for people across the world who are suffering. You could also sing the Lent song you learned in class to someone in your family.
I couldn’t believe how many of you logged on to Sumdog yesterday to complete challenges and to take part in our class maths competition. Most of the class have started and the leaderboard is looking very close. Remember the competition closes on Friday at 2.30pm and shortly after I will be revealing our winner, who will be crowned this week’s Maths Champion.
Today you could practise the sh, th, ch and ng phonemes. Listen and sing along to your jolly phonics songs, say the sounds whilst doing the actions and try to write down some words which contain each of these phonemes. I’m sure you might also like to go back and watch Geraldine the Giraffe on her sound hunt. There is a video for each of these sounds 🦒
You could add some more fun into your day by tuning in live to listen to David Walliams reading one of his stories at 11am. His stories are very funny and star some of ‘The World’s Worst Children’.
I have another little challenge for you today which you might like to try. Can you create your own little imaginative world and hideaway by building a den in your house? You could use lots of different materials that you can find around the house, such as pillows, fabrics and pegs. Will it become a hidden castle or an amazing space rocket? Wherever your imagination takes you I cannot wait to find out. Tweet me a picture and leave me a little message. @St_BarbarasPS
Have an amazing day and remember to take plenty of breaks.
Miss McEleney 😀
Good morning Superstars🌟
Today is the first day of a new month. Can you sing our months of the year song and work out what month comes after March? What month is it?
Today I would like you to practise reading all of your common words in your word tin. You can do this in lots of fun ways. You all love playing our common word SPLAT game in class. You could stick the words from the tin on your wall and ask a parent to call out a common word for you to READ and SPLAT. You could SPLAT it with your hand, a ball, a torch, a rolled up sock or shoot it with a nerf gun. It’s up to you! 🎯
I would also like you to continue working on the reading and spelling challenges I have set for you and take part in our class Sumdog maths competition. Lots of you have already made a great start, well done! I would be so happy if everyone could give them a try! 🏆
Now for some Bubble Fun! I have made you all a little video. I decided to make the most of the good weather yesterday and decided to make a Bubble Snake. Click on the video below to see how much fun I had.
FC0C2355-4EBB-4A55-A269-5CD1783712D2
Adults love bubbles too! Why not try making one for yourself and see how much fun you can have. It is very easy to make from things that you already have in your home.
All you need is a bottle, a sock(a clean one of course), washing up liquid, water and scissors.
Firstly ask an adult to cut the bottom off the plastic bottle using scissors. Next cover the open end of your bottle with a sock and make sure you have pulled it all the way up. Then make up your solution using water and washing up liquid. Finally dip the end of the sock into the bottle and blow the air OUT, do not suck it in.
How long can you make your bubble snake? Blowing slowly produces the longest snakes. 🐍
Remember to take pictures or videos and tweet them to St_BarbarasPS. I would love to see them🤩
Have fun and enjoy!
Miss McEleney 😀
Good morning boys and girls 🙂
Yesterday was another beautiful Spring day. If you are outside today, see how many signs of Spring you can spot. You could even draw or paint a picture of Spring when you get back inside.
Remember I have set you a spelling and reading challenge on Sumdog to work on this week. I have also set up a Maths competition for our class. Take part and test your amazing skills. I will keep a close eye on Sumdog each day this week and announce the winner of our competition on Friday. Good luck everyone!
Remember to keep active and have fun! Tuesday is our PE day so why not try the Joe Wicks workout, Jump Start Jonny or even some Cosmic Yoga.
We enjoy practising counting to 100 in ones in class with Jack Hartmann. Why not try this at home and ask someone in your house to join in!
Spread some joy by showing kindness today. You could help your mum and dad with any jobs around the house.
Enjoy your day boys and girls. Have fun and keep smiling!
Miss McEleney 🙂
Good morning boys and girls,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend with your families and managed to get out for some fresh air. The weather has been really nice. I managed to go a long walk each day and enjoyed listening to my music.
Today marks the beginning of your second week of home learning. I was so impressed with how hard you all worked last week so I am sure you will be great this week too! This week I would like you to continue working on your home learning grid. I have also set you two Literacy challenges to complete on Sumdog.
I have made Maths a little more fun by creating a competition on Sumdog. The competition will begin today and it will end at 3 o’clock on Friday. I will post the winner on Friday. Remember, you have to be in it, to win it! Try your best and give it a go!
Remember you can also access Studyladder. Some of you have already emailed me for your username and password. If you haven’t, please feel free to email me and I will send you your details. lmceleney@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk
I am missing all of your cheery faces and stories. Keep tweeting me all of your wonderful pictures.
Take care and have a great day,
Miss McEleney
I promised you all a picture of my victoria sponge and here it is 🙂 I might have got a little bit excited and ate a piece before I took the picture! It was delicious!
Baking is fun and of course tasty! I challenge you to try and bake something next week and post me a little picture 🙂
Now I am off out on a big walk to work off all that cake!
Have a great weekend.
Miss McEleney 🙂
Good morning 🙂
Happy Friday! Well done for making it through your first week of home learning. I am sure you have been working hard and listening carefully to your mum’s and dad’s but most importantly I am sure you have been having lots of FUN with your family.
A lovely way to start your day would be to say this simple 5 finger prayer.
We have been working hard in class improving our Spanish skills. Why not show off your skills to one of your family members? Can you tell them the days of the week and months of the year in Spanish? You could even sing them a song!
Keep working through the activities on your learning grid. Remember I have set you some maths, reading and spelling challenges on Sumdog. Your challenges finish today so… GO! GO! GO! I have also signed you up for Study Ladder. If you haven’t got your login details yet just send me an email. lmceleney@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk
Since you have worked so hard this week you certainly deserve some GOLDEN TIME. Play with a toy or game you haven’t played with in a while.
Today I am going to try and bake a victoria sponge cake 🙂 Let’s hope it all goes to plan!
Have a lovely weekend boys and girls. Keep safe and keep smiling.
Miss McEleney 🙂
Good morning everyone 🙂
I hope you had a great day yesterday. I enjoyed reading your tweets and getting to see your smiley faces in the pictures and videos. I am very proud of how hard you are all working!
Today I would like you to keep working through your learning grids, choosing some tasks to complete. Remember to take plenty of breaks and get some fresh air in your garden.
If you would like a change this morning and you would like to try a new workout, Jumpstart Jonny is great fun! https://www.youtube.com/jumpstartjonny
I have also signed you all up for Studyladder. https://www.studyladder.co.uk/ This is another great online resource, where you can access lots of great activities to keep your brain active. I will be setting you tasks each week. You each have your own username and password to login. Please email me if you wish to receive these details.

One last thing before I go 🙂 I cannot stop watching the live webcams at Edinburgh Zoo. The animals are far too cute and they are certainly cheering me up. My favourite is definitely the Panda cam! https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/webcams/panda-cam/
Have a great day boys and girls.
Miss McEleney 🙂
Good morning boys and girls 🙂
I hope you are all well and keeping safe. I am missing all of your smiley faces. Dippy is looking after our classroom and he said that it is just not the same without you all!
Keep working through your home learning grids. I would love if you could tweet a picture of you completing some of your tasks. Tag your post @St_BarbarasPS . This would make me smile!
I have also set you all a challenge on Sumdog. Remember your username and passwords can be found inside your diary.
Here is a fun little reading challenge for you to try.
Have fun! I look forward to reading your tweets!
