Today is Thursday and that means writing day! Although I was only in your class for a short time, I saw some super writing tasks from you. On Tuesday it was National Superhero Day, which honours superheroes both real and fictional. 🦸‍  You may have a favourite superhero of your own? In my house we have two favourites, one of my boys loves Batman and the other loves Spider-Man. Superheroes are great role models for us, they serve and protect while fighting evil. Over the last few weeks we have seen lots of super heroes in our own country, helping to fight this virus. Can anyone think of who these people might be? We clap for them every Thursday.  Doctors, nurses, NHS workers among many others.

I would like you to write about your favourite superhero, it could be Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America or any other.  You may even choose someone closer to home that you think is a superhero, it might be your mum, dad, gran, grandpa, friend, teacher, whoever you wish.  I would like you to tell me your superhero’s name, their special powers and why you think they are so important.  You can also draw a picture of your superhero. I’d love to find out who your hero is, you could send me a little picture.

Good morning boys and girls,  please begin today with our morning prayer:

I hope that you have been working hard this week and helping your parents out at home. We will begin today, as we do each day, revising our initial sounds and phonemes that we already know.  This is very important as these sounds help us to read and write.

Literacy – Today I would like you to go on an alphabet scavenger hunt in your house and/or garden. Can you find something around your house for every letter of the alphabet? Take your time and have fun!

You can complete this in your jotter and write down the item or can take a picture of all the things you have found.

Practise your 12 common words from yesterday in any way you wish, rainbow spelling, shaving foam, play doh, pasta, in sand or just in your jotter. Practise writing these words 3 times each.

Last week we were looking at number bonds to 10.  Let’s see how much you can remember by beginning with our ‘Daily 10’ mental maths questions.

If you would like more of a challenge you can try and complete in a shorter time or try bonds to make 20.

Health and Wellbeing – I’d like you to choose you own exercise, you can tune into Joe Wicks or Jump Start Johnny or go for a walk, cycle or scoot or even just jump on your trampoline for 10 minutes if you have one.

In class we looked at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We also talked about the lifecycle of a butterfly.  Watch this story again and try to complete the activity that follows.

Good morning Primary 1 and happy Friday!!😁 What a beautiful day it is again.🌞Let’s begin by saying our morning prayer and an Our Father and thanking God for our beautiful world in Spring.

Literacy

Please practise writing out each initial sound/phoneme as you sing along to our Jolly Phonics songs.  You could use a whiteboard or write them into your jotter, just one time for each sound.

Revise the wh phoneme in the same way that you did on Wednesday.
When, what, whip, whisk, whisper any other wh words that you would like to try.

Common words – Practise reading all of your common words from your word box.  Can you read the three new words? Well done!  Today I would like you to do some rainbow spelling 🌈 Choose 3 colours and write each word with each colour, like this..

If you would prefer, you could use chalk and write them outside.

Dictated sentences – ask your child to try to write one of these sentences into their jotter, read a word at a time slowly for your child to write down. Boys and girls remember out little song 🎶Capital letter at the start, full stop at the end, finger spaces in between and show it to a friend🎶Choose the sentence which best suits your child.

1. I went out to play.

2. What will I do now?

3.I got a new toy.

Reading – Choose your favourite story from home and ask someone in your family to read it to you.  Try read the common words that you can from it.  Make a list of any of your common words in the story.

Numeracy

Can you tell someone in your family the days of the week? How many days are in a week?

Can you rhyme the months of the year? How many months are in a year?

Can you write down 3 different ways to make 10?

 

Health & Wellbeing

During this time at home we might be feeling lots of different emotions. Sometimes we might feel happy to be with our families, sometimes we might feel sad when someone does something we don’t like, sometimes we might feel afraid because everything is different.  It’s ok to feel all of these things.  Can you draw the faces showing how these people feel and talk to someone in your family about how you are feeling today?

Remember that these are only ideas and we know that you may not be able to do them all, everyone has different circumstances.  Do what you can do, that’s all that we ask.  I hope that you have found some of the tasks useful.  If I can help in any way please contact me:

Good morning girls and boys!😁 I hope you have been having fun with your home learning. Please begin today with your morning prayer and say a special ‘Hail Mary’ for all the people who are sick in our world and for those caring for them.

Literacy – Writing
Today is Thursday and would usually be your writing day so I’d love for you to write me a little story telling me about your Easter weekend. Please send them to me if you can.  I would like you to include:

When? When did your story happen?
During my Easter weekend/On Easter Sunday/ On the 12th of April

Where? Where were you?
In my back garden/ In my house/ Out for my daily walk

What happened? Did the Easter Bunny leave you some eggs? Did you have an Easter egg hunt? Did you go for a walk, cycle or on your scooter?

How did you feel? I felt excited/I felt amazed/I felt over the moon

Reading – Practise reading the book that you chose yesterday to someone in your family.

Today is St George’s Day, St George is the Patron St of England. Here is a little story of St George and the dragon. Perhaps you can draw a little picture of St George and the dragon for me?

Here is an extra idea for you if you find the time (or you could work on it for next Thursday), can you make your own musical instrument to play and cheer for the NHS?

Good morning boys and girls, it’s Wednesday already!! I hope that you are enjoying the sunshine and managing to spend some time in your gardens.

Let’s begin today with some exercise, Joe Wicks or Jump Start Johnny will both wake you up and get your mind ready to work.

Literacy – I would like you to continue working on all of your initial sounds and phonemes th, sh, ch and ng.

This week our focus phoneme is wh. I hope that you have managed to think of some words with the wh phoneme sound in them. Usually in class we use our magnetic boards to practise with a friend, if you have one at home please try to do this with someone in your family, if not you can practise writing the words out.

Blend the word (push the sounds together) – when

Read the word –  📖when

Write the word 📝           Try to use this strategy with each word.

 It is also important to practise reading all of the common words in your word box, remember to write out your 3 new words and add them to your box – out, now, new. As these are tricky words we can’t sound them out, we can look at the shape of the word to help us remember it (take a picture in your mind) or sometimes we can spot other words within words.

Practise writing these words in a fun way. These are my two favourite ways:  shaving foam and play doh.

Please select a new book from your reading website, listen to it first, then read along with it. Try to write a sentence about your favourite page and draw a picture to match. I’d love to see some pictures of your super literacy work!! 

Numeracy – Practise counting fowards to 30 and backwards with a clap. Can you remember the doubles song that I taught you? 🎶One and one make two, one and one make two, e oh my daddio, one and one make two🎶 If you do try and sing it up to 5 and 5.

For the next task you will need a whiteboard or a pencil and paper.  We are going to practise the formation of our numbers to 10. This might be quite easy for you but I’d like you to try and write them as neatly as you can. Watch this clip and join in…

I hope that you all managed to get logged in and had a little read at one of the online books.  Today read it again and try to use expression in your voice.  Revise all initial sounds and phonemes.  Choose a fun way to practise the words shop, ship, fish, chat, chin, dish, the, thin, and that. You could paint them, use coloured pens or pencils and do rainbow spelling,  use chalk, play-doh, practise in sand or use shaving foam (my favourite). As Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, let’s take a little bit of time to say an Our Father to pray for all of the people who are ill in our world.  I hope that you managed to read the Easter story that Mrs Connelly sent you.

I have a little challenge for you over the next week. Let’s see who can make an Easter Bonnet. Maybe you could post a picture of you wearing it on Twitter? I’d love to see them all.

Good morning boys and girls.  I hope that you are all well.  Today we begin a new month – April. Can you say your days of the week and months of the year to someone in your family?

Try to begin your day with some exercise to wake you up and get your minds working.  Perhaps try some Cosmic Kids Yoga ( I know that you all enjoy that) or Joe Wicks or Go Noodle.

Literacy – Practise all of your sounds and phonemes “sh, th, ch and ng” – try to write down two words for each phoneme. We will look at some new phonemes after Easter. Remember that you can sing along to the Jolly Phonics songs on YouTube.

Numeracy – Practise counting to 30 orally, count forwards and backwards.  Here is a fun game that you can revise your addition and subtraction to 10.

Your Caterpillars are making great progress, they climbed to the top of the cup and became chrysalides – this is the hard shell that forms around the caterpillar. My boys enjoyed helping to move the chrysalides into their new home – the butterfly garden.  Now we must wait for 7-14 days to see the amazing transformation that is taking place inside.
