Primary 1a – Happy holidays!

Good morning boys and girls!! It’s almost the summer holidays! You have been a brilliant Primary One class. We remember your first day at school and you have grown and learned so much this year.  Not the year we had imagined but you have done so well.  We hope you have a very happy summer holiday and look forward to seeing all of your lovely faces when you return to school in August. We hope you have lots of fun and adventures over the summer.

Love Mrs MacLeod and Mrs Connolly xxx

R.E. – Wednesday 17th June

Good morning boys and girls, on Sunday we celebrated the feast of Christ’s Body and Blood, this is also know as Corpus Christi so today we are going to take some time to celebrate Jesus-the bread of life. Make sure that you are comfortable, light a little candle 🕯 (if a grown up is with you) this helps us to take time out of our day to remember that Jesus is with us.

When we go to mass there are two very important symbols that remind us of Christ’s body and blood.  Can anyone think of what they are?

The chalice (the cup) and the host (the bread).  These are very important items we use at mass that become, or hold, Christ’s body and blood.

Why do you think that we celebrate Christ’s body and blood?  Why is it important?

Christ’s body and blood are gifts that Jesus began to give us at the Last Supper and finished after he rose from the dead.  We also call it the Eucharist.  We share the Eucharist together to remind us that we are all united.  In school, the boys and girls in primary 5-7 have received Jesus’s body in communion – the Eucharist, however, it is important for us all to receive Jesus into our hearts.  We can all do this when we show love and kindness towards others. Perhaps today you could try to show kindness to the people in your family. It could be something simple like helping to tidy your room, help to do the dishes or make a cup of tea.  Think of something that will make someone happy.

Have a great day boys and girls, take care and remember to be kind. 😊💕🙏

Primary 1a – Friday 5th June

Good morning boys and girls, happy Friday 😁😁😁

I have sent you all an email, please have a little look at it, this is your task for today.

Have a great weekend and talk to you all next week.

Primary 1a – Thursday 4th June

Good morning boys and girls. I hope you are all well and working hard at home. Let’s begin with our morning prayer:

God Our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us, to use properly the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together. St Barbara pray for us🙏

Literacy

Today I would like to to try this little game with a partner at home. Roll the dice to read the words in the row. If you do not have a dice you can challenge your partner to a speed read.  Time how fast you can read the “oo” words vertically and diagonally.  Good luck, I hope you win!!

Reading

The link below is a story about “oo”, this is your reading challenge for today. Well done to Charlie, Eryn, Rebecca and Steven for your super reading. You are doing so well on Scholastic and I have assigned you another book to read over the next few days if you can.  I’d love to hear some more of you recording your reading for me to hear.

HWB

We were talking yesterday about how important it is to look after our bodies. Drinking plenty especially during exercise and warm weather to keep us hydrated.  Our bodies are amazing things.

Here is a little activity to keep you busy and at the same time learn about all of the parts that make up ‘US’!!

Have you got a roll of wallpaper lying around or if you have been receiving lots of packages (did you know all our posties are busier than their busiest time of the year, Christmas!) during lockdown and have cardboard boxes around I want you to lie them flat on the ground and get someone in your house to draw round you.  (The weather’s not looking that good today but should be dry so even do this task outside).

Here we have our template!!  Can you label and identify as many parts of the human body – all our organs?  See if you can have a good guess at where they are located.  Our heart 💓 should be easy, what about our lungs, liver etc.  Try to see how many you can find.  You could even put your artistic talents to good use and draw them in.

Remember to email your marvellous pictures to (Teacher’s Glow email) or upload it onto Twitter with an adult’s permission.

RE

As we know things just now are very different from what we are used to.  By now our new Primary 1 children would have been in to visit the school but, like you, they have not been able to come in for their visits.  We are thinking that it would be a lovely idea for you to say a little prayer for them.  In order to make them feel welcome to our school in August, I would like you to choose the word for your stage below, write/colour it on a sheet of paper, hold it up and ask an adult to take a picture of you holding your word with a big smile and if it is possible you could wear your uniform.  Please email your picture to (Teacher’s Glow email).  We will use these to make our Primary 1’s feel very welcome in school.

A    Great   Big      Welcome     To     St.     Barbara’s!

Primary 1 – A; Primary 5 – Great; Primary 4 – Big; Primary 6 – Welcome; Primary 2 – To; PRIMARY 3 – St. (remember the dot); Primary 7 – Barbara’s!

Do you remember our Easter Message?

We still miss you lots 😢!!

Have a great day boys and girls.

Primary 1a – Wednesday 3rd June

Good morning boys and girls, how are you all today? I hope that you are keeping well and working hard. Let’s begin our day with our morning prayer:

God Our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us to use properly many gifts that you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.  St Barbara pray for us.🙏

HWB
I hope that you enjoyed your Slushies yesterday!! We just managed to get them made in the warm weather as today has to be a bit cooler.

YOGA 🧘‍♀️ 🧘‍♂️

We are going to follow a little Yoga session that Mrs McFall (Daniel and Luke’s mum) has kindly allowed us to share on the Blog.

Below is a great Yoga workout that you can do along with an adult or your siblings.  You can also have your favourite ted join in too.

Yoga is a great skill helping you learn the importance of how you breath which in turn helps us relax and sleep well.  (Parents: Mrs McFall recommends that you allow your child to go with the flow and, if you are able to accompany them doing the video, ask them similar questions).  Remember with any exercise we should remember to drink plenty to keep us hydrated, looking after our bodies!!

Once again a great big thank you to Mrs McFall and Luke. 👏👏

Literacy

On Monday Mrs Connolly introduced you to the phoneme “oo”, can you remember any “oo” words? Can you guess the words I am thinking of:

1. If you look up to the sky at night you will see me.

2. It is on top of your house.

3. You use me to eat soup and yoghurt.

4. I am attached to your leg.

5. Lots of animals live here and people visit to look at them.

6. When you are hungry you eat it.

Now I would like you to use you whiteboards and magnetic letters if you have them to make these words, if not you can write the words down.

T-L-949-Long-Short-Oos-Word-Cards

Remember we use our strategy to help us with our phonemes.

e.g. spoon

Say the word👄 spoon.

Make the word/break the word- s    p    oo    n

Blend the word (push it together) – spoon

Read the word📖 – spoon

Write the word 🖊 – spoon

oo-like-spoon

Today we are going to look at 3 new common words – play, no, look.

play – is a tricky word for us as – ay is a phoneme that we have not learned yet.
no – is tricky as we can’t sound it out n is the letter sound and o is the letter name.
look – we can sound this word out l-oo-k.

Write these words out 3 times each and make up a sentence for each of them.

Maths- Time⏰

Have you been enjoying learning to tell the time? We are going to do a little more practise over the next few days.

Remember… when the small hand points to a number it tells us the hour – the time in the day. When the big hand points to 12, it is o’clock.

Join in with this song.

Were you able to tell all of the times?

*Parents – this teaching clock is useful to ask your child o’clock times* -https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock

Why not try this little game? https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/116/telling-the-time.

RE

Over the course of the last few days we have been learning about the importance of Pentecost. It has shown us how important the feast is in the church’s year.

There are a few activities below which you can complete to reinforce what you have learned about The Feast of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.  You can choose to do one activity or why not complete it together with your siblings.

pentecost – story

pentecost – word search

When you have finished your activities, take a few minutes to pray together with your family.  I have attached a lovely hymn that you could sing together to finish off your Pentecost work for today.

I hope you have a super day. Try to do your best, that’s all we can ask of you.

Mrs MacLeod 😁🌈

Primary 1a – Friday 29th June

Good morning everyone 😁☀️ This weather is beautiful isn’t it!? I hope that you are managing to get outside and enjoy it.

RE
We have been learning how Jesus prayed for his friends and for all of us and how he taught his disciples to pray to our Heavenly Father.  We know that saying our prayers is very important.  Onthe accompanying illustration of Jesus praying, draw pictures or write names in the thought bubble of yourselves and some of the other people Jesus was praying for. You could choose your families and friends, as well as our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

Prayer_childrens-liturgy_7th-Sunday-Easter-A-pic

Colour your picture in when you have finished writing in the names of your family and friends.  Now show someone your picture and tell them how much you love them and that you will remember them in your prayers.

Please send us a copy of your picture at gw09wallacemarie2@glow.sch.uk or Tweet us @St_BarbarasPS.

Literacy📖

Continue to practise all of your initial sounds, phonemes and common words.
Revise ee phoneme – choose one worksheet to copy and complete.

t-l-51780-find-and-write-the-ee-words-differentiated-activity-sheets

Reading – Today I would like you to select a book of your own choice and find/make a cosy space in your garden to read it.  You can choose from Scholastic, Collins or one that you have at home. Can you design a new cover for your book including: title, author, illustrator and picture?

Remember that there have been tasks assigned to you on Studyladder to help with your common words and phonemes so if you’ve not had a go, login and give it a try! Well done to Arran and Eryn for completing your tasks, they were fantastic!

Maths ⏰

Today you will be continuing to learn more about Time.

Activities that happen at certain times of the day

We are going to begin by talking about activities that happen at certain times of day. We do different activities in the morning, afternoon and evening.

When do you eat breakfast? In the morning.

When do you go to sleep? At night.

Look at the pictures below whether you would and discuss with your mum or dad whether you would do the activity in the morning, the afternoon or at night.

Can you think of one more thing that you do in the morning, afternoon and at night?

Label the parts of a clock

Yesterday you were learning about the main parts of the clock. Can you point and name each part of the clock below.

Can you remember which hand is the hour hand and which hand is the minutes hand? Remember a clue is to look carefully at the size of the hands.

How did you get on yesterday making your own clock faces? I loved seeing pictures of some of the clocks that  you created.

Telling the Time

Counting is essential for time-telling.

To help the process of learning how to tell the time, encourage your child to practise  counting from 1 to 60 in the correct order.

If they can count from 1-60, move on to counting in groups of 5 – remember to point out that when you count in fives, every number ends in a 5 or 0.

Remember boys and girls:

The long hand represents minutes.

The short hand represents hours.

If you have a clock in the house, use it to help explain the following to your child:

There are 60 seconds in one minute.  When the long hand goes right round the clock that is 60 seconds.

There are 60 minutes in one hour. When the short hand goes right round the clock that is 60 minutes.

The Hour Hand

Today you will be learning how to tell the time to the hour on the analogue clock.

The  analogue clock face is just a special kind of number line. A clock is just a circular number line from 1 to 12.

When the short hand points to a number, this tells us how many hours it is.

When the minute hand is pointing to 12, it is showing a full hour.
We call this time ‘o’clock’.

On this clock, the hour hand is pointing at the 4 and the minute hand is pointing to the 12.

This clock is showing that the time is 4 o’clock.

I would like you to read this PowerPoint carefully. It will give you a step-by-step guide of how to tell the time using o’clock. At the end there is a little quiz to test how well you have been listening.

t-n-7132-telling-the-time-powerpoint-

One way to help your child grasp a better understanding of time is to draw your child’s attention to time. Mention the time at different points in the day. For example, you could say, ‘it’s 5 o’clock – time for tea,’ or ‘it’s 7 o’clock – time for a bath.’

HWB

It is very important for us to talk about how we are feeling.  It is especially important now as some of you may be worried about the changes we have all had to make in the last few months.  Talking to someone, exercising and relaxing are all great ways to help your health and wellbeing and keep you feeling happy.  Today I would like you to play the lanterns game below where you write down how you are feeling and what has made you feel that way.  You will then see your feeling float up into the sky.

https://www.healthforkids.co.uk/game/lanterns/

Now we are going to do some Jump Start Jonny to help us get some fun exercise and make us smile!

https://www.jumpstartjonny.co.uk/home

Click on whichever video you like or do all three!  My favourite is I like to move it 🙂 it certainly gets your heart beating!

Now for some relaxing time.  A great way to relax is by doing yoga. Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing.

Why not send us some pictures of you taking part in any of the exercises you have been doing today.  Send to gw09wallacemarie2@glow.sch.uk or Tweet @St_BarbarasPS

Have a super weekend and remember to stay safe in the sun!
