Welcome to our March Newsletter!
We are now officially into spring and we are all very busy as we head towards Easter.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Scottish Attainment Challenge – Read to Succeed
As you will be aware our school is part of the Scottish Governments agenda in its aim to raise the attainment of children and young people.
Our main focus is within the area of Literacy. Here is an overview of the developments our school has recently been involved with:
- Read to Succeed Week – This is now our second year and helps support your children’s reading and writing in a fun way.
We celebrated child/parent efforts by holding a series of literacy events including:-
Parents reading with child
Author Visits
Movie Night – based on novels the children have been reading
Scholastic Book Fair
Library Visits
Mrs Reddick is continuing to work and support children in raising attainment in Literacy.
EASTER ACTIVITIES
Primary 1 – 3
Primary 1, 1a, 1b and 1/2 will lead the school in a Spring Assembly on Tuesday 28th March. During the assembly the children will have the opportunity to take part in an Easter Bonnet Parade. Thank you parents for making these at home with your child.
Primary 4 – 7
P4 – P7 will take part in the Easter Egg Competition – decorate a boiled egg. These should be brought to school on the morning of Thursday 30th March. The children will vote for the winning egg in each class.
Lenten Fundraising
Our Lenten fundraising is well underway… We would like to thank you for your continued support in this area.
Please complete our survey regarding the charities you wish us to support. (See last page).
Staffing
Huge Congratulations to Mrs Sandra McLean who was the successful candidate for the post of HT in St Aidan’s Primary School.
We do not know, as yet, when Mrs Mclean will leave us to take up the new post but we will keep you informed.
Mrs McLean will be greatly missed by us all in St Margaret of Scotland Primary. We wish her every success in her new post.
I would like to thank her personally for the friendship and support she has given me over the years. I have no doubt she will do a sterling job.
In Mrs McMillan’s absence Miss Rooney will continue with the role of APT.
After Easter Break Miss Rooney will teach P4/5 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Miss Carrigan will teach P4/5 on a Thursday and Friday
Welcome back to Mrs McCormack who is returning from maternity leave. Mrs McCormack will cover the class teacher non-contact time 2 days per week.
Congratulations to Miss Hughes who gave birth to a baby boy on March 17th.
Primary 3 LCSC
We would like to wish our wonderful children in P3LCSC Good luck in their new schools. We will miss you all.
We will be holding a leavers assembly on Thursday 30th March at 2.00pm (Letter to follow)
Financial Education Week
Miss Rooney is currently organising Financial Education Week which takes place week beginning 18th April 2017.

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair arrived on Monday 20th March and will be collected on the 24th March. Children will visit the Book Fair. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase books from the Book Fair during Parents’ Evening on Thursday 23rd March. Please take a look at the Scholastic website as there are lots of free resources available. Thank you.
Sacrament of First Reconciliation
Congratulations to our Primary 3 children who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation in St Joseph’s Parish on Tuesday 7th March and in Sacred Heart Parish on Tuesday 21st March. It was a lovely celebration.

Primary 7 Transition
Staff from OLHS have been working with the Primary 7 class weekly and we have had a visit from Mrs Cowie, DHT. The children are currently working on a transition project and are working very closely with pupils and staff from St Lucy’s Primary. They have also had visits from a Mandarin teacher and will have a Spanish teacher after Easter break.
Mrs Mclean has also been working with closely with staff from Greenfaulds High and St Maurice’s High Schools. More information will follow shortly.
P5 Swimming Program
Our P5 children started their swimming block on Tuesday 14th March and will attend swimming and dry-side sports every TUESDAY morning, from for a twelve week period.
Fairtrade & Eco
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved our Fairtrade and Eco flags.
I would like to thank Mrs Forrest, Mrs Reddick and the Fairtrade committee and also Miss Rooney, Miss Hughes and the Eco committee for all of their hard work.
Autism Awareness Month (April) – Onsie Day
To help raise awareness for Autism Awareness Month we plan on having a onsie day. More details will follow.
Once a week take a peek
Can I ask you to check your child’s hair and be extra vigilant when brushing, combing or washing your child’s hair.

School Ties
These are available from the school office at a cost of £3 each
Good to be Green
Can I remind everyone to sign this and return to school on Monday mornings. It is important that you are informed weekly of your child’s behaviour.
Spring Break We would like to remind you that school will close at 3.00pm on Friday 31st March and re-open on Tuesday 18th April.
