27.2.26
This week Primary 2 took their learning about the Winter Olympics outside. We used flat stones to play a game of curling, used sticks to make a bobsleigh track and tested it with toy cars. We used pine cones to do target practise for the Biathlon and used natural materials to make olympians. In class we have been practising our Curling skills with a table top game and we designed and created our own gold medals. On Thursday we received a special letter from Team GB, thanking us for all our hard work during this topic and they provided us with snacks for a movie afternoon.
20.2.26
On Monday, Primary 2 were delighted to tell me that over the weekend, Team GB had won, not 1, not 2, but 3 medals at the Winter Olympics and they were all GOLD! We got a special letter from Team GB with a challenge to learn all about the Skeleton Event. We learned so many facts and then designed and tested our own sleds. Did you know that Skeleton athletes can reach 80-90mph down the ice track?
13.2.26
On Thursday we received another mission from Team GB. This time they wanted us to make tin foil skiers and test them on different slopes. We absolutely loved this STEM mission and had the best afternoon testing different slopes, different sized skis and even making a half pipe for our skiers.
This week, Primary 2 have taken on a series of missions for Team GB. On Tuesday we received a letter asking for our help with making material waterproof. We enlisted the help of our resident science expert, Miss Purdon who told us all about Charles Mackintosh and his experiments with making material waterproof. We took inspiration from him and tested a variety of substances to see if it would stop the water soaking through. We tried bees wax, candle wax, crayons and chalk. We found that the crayons worked the best at making the material waterproof.
Miss Purdon had a wonderful Golden Book session with this enthusiastic group of learners! From how well MTV Strategies improve our reading and comprehension skills, to the excitement that comes from taking our learning outside…it sounds like every day in Primary 2 is an exciting new adventure! I particularly loved hearing how much you enjoyed Outdoor Learning to further explore 3D Shapes in Maths and your Scotland IDL topic, because the outdoor space “gives us more room for creativity”. I can’t wait to visit your class again soon, thank you for sharing your learning with me!
What a busy week it has been in P2. First, we took our learning on 2d shapes and 3d objects outside to complete a shape hunt. Ask us what shapes we spotted in nature. We also used loose parts to make shapes, made 3d objects from magnetic tile nets and had a go at drawing shapes using chalk. This week has been Reading Schools week so we made sure to complete DEAR (drop everything and read) time each day with Bluey. And finally, on Friday we received a very important letter from The team GB Winter Olympics Team. They asked for our help making sure they have all the right materials for their equipment and outfits, as well as help promoting the games and gathering support. Of course P2 were up for the challenge!!!
23.1.26
Primary 2 have been multiplying magicians this week, using arrays and equal groups to multiply numbers. We love using a range of concrete materials to explore calculations.
14.1.26
Primary 2 took their learning outside to construct famous Scottish monuments and landmarks. Mrs Merrison was blown away by the children’s teamwork while constructing football stadiums, the Forth Rail Bridge, the Kelpies and Arria the Cumbernauld mermaid.
14.1.26
Primary 2 were happy to be back at school and get started on their new topic, Scotland. We learned all about the history of tartan and then had a go at creating our own. We used a series of vertical and horizontal lines of different sizes and colours and the results were amazing. We also carried on learning the colours in French and made fortune tellers to practise this vocabulary.
Golden Book – December 2025
Golden Book with Primary 2 today was fabulous. Mrs H learned all about the fantastic Literacy work and Science learning that has taken place. She was amazed that the children could label the human body and felt so much better that we have helpful, aspiring doctors on hand.
Mrs H made a spelling mistake during Golden Book but the ‘yeti’s’ in P2 were full of encouragement and support. They told me that ‘practise makes perfect’ and that they do this daily.
Keep up the good work P2!
14.12.25
Primary 2 wrapped up their learning on the Human Body by learning about the Circulatory System. We learned that the heart is the only muscle that pumps by itself and we learned about the components that make up blood. To finish we made our own blood models to learn more about plasma, white and red blood cells and platelets.
Nativity!
Primary 1-3 wowed the parents/carers in our performance of ‘Bethlehem Bake-Off’! We took to the stage as we told the Nativity story with a little Bake-Off flair. Angels, Wise People, Shepherds, stars and everyone in between danced their socks off and sang their hearts out. We even had our very own Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith on hand to crown the Bake-Off star!
8.12.25
Primary 2 have started learning about division. We used the equal groups strategy to share objects equally with nothing left over. We added a Christmas twist to our activities and shared presents between the Grinches, marshmallows between the hot chocolates and buttons between the gingerbread.
14.11.25
This week, Primary 2 learned about the Respiratory System. We practised locating and naming the different parts of the system and then created a model from straws and balloons to demonstrate how this system works.
7.11.25
This week, Primary 2 continued their learning about the human body and we learned all about the digestive system. We learned the scientific names for the parts of this system and practised using them through playful activities. Today we demonstrated how the digestive system works with a science experiment, ask us all about it!
31.10.25
This week Primary 2 made pumpkin biscuits to celebrate Halloween and in maths we practised our addition strategies using a variety of spooky playful learning activities. On Monday we started our joint topic with P3 all about the Human Body. Mrs Merrison taught us about the 5 senses and tested them with different sense stations. We had to guess the smell on 5 different cotton pads, listen carefully and guess the sound bite, guess the mystery object by touch while blindfolded, say whether food we tasted was bitter, sour, sweet, savoury or salty and finally we had to look very carefully to spot 10 differences in a Halloween picture.
24.10.25
This week, Primary 2 conducted a science experiment to investigate how the temperature of water effects how long a glow stick lasts. We talked about how to make an experiment fair by only changing one variable and then made predictions. We found that hot water made the glow stick glow brighter and for longer and that ice water made the glow stick stop glowing the quickest. We wrote instructions to allow others to conduct our experiment.
10.10.25
Primary 2 rounded off their Knights and Castles topic by learning about the jobs in a castle. We dressed up as jesters, knights, cooks and queens to role play these jobs. In maths, after reading the story ‘The Greedy Triangle’ we explored a variety of 2d shapes by making these wonderful Shape Vampires.
Golden Book – October
Miss Robertson had the BEST time with this group of Primary 2 Golden Book-ers! They taught her all about what it was like to live in a castle. They shared their learning on how to protect castles, castle jobs, knights, armour and Mary Queen of Scots. They even made their own catapults and had a go at protecting their own castles. As well as IDL learning, they have also been learning about place value. They told Miss R about the tens and ones house, showed her how to write numbers and even shared how to order numbers. Well done, you are all STARS! Thank you for sharing your work with me!
26.9.25
Primary 2 have had a busy week. We have been learning about place value and constructing 2-digit numbers using base tens materials. We have been making great learning choices during spelling and we spent time with the P7s ahead of the elections.
19.9.25
Primary 2 have been learning how to greet each other in French. So far we have learned; Salut, Bonjour, Je m’appelle and ca va. We made french puppets to practise these greetings with our friends.
12.9.25
This week we celebrated our first Star Writers of the year who wrote amazing information reports about the features of a castle. We learned about how people defended and attacked castles and made our own catapults. Once we made our catapults we tested and adapted them to see how far we could launch our pompoms. In maths we continued learning about numbers to 100, focussing on numbers before, after and in between.
5.9.25
Primary 2 have started our Knights and Castles topic and we learned all about the parts of a castle. We used paint and sponges to stamp bricks onto castles we drew. On Wednesday we spent the day with Mrs Hawthorn and learned about recycling, taking care of the environment and we designed golden tickets for the ‘Beats and Treats’ reward. Finally, in maths we have been ordering and sequencing numbers to 100.
29.8.25
Primary 2 have had a busy week. We have been revising Stage 1 phonemes using our magnetic boards and showing off our reading skills to Mrs Merrison. We have been learning all about estimation in maths, acted out different facial expressions in drama and used our colour mixing skills to paint a rainbow.
22.8.25
Primary 2 have had a very busy first week of school. We have enjoyed playing with our friends and exploring our new classroom. On our first day we read the story of ‘First Day Jitters’ and enjoyed some jitter juice to help settle our nerves. We learned learned how to mix primary colours to make secondary colours in art and revised number bonds to 10 in numeracy. We enjoyed taking part in a team building game to rescue the “worm” and explored our feelings through the stories ‘The Colour Monster’ and ‘The Camel who had the Hump’.
