Today P6 were encouraged to think about different families. Miss Hawthorn started off the discussions by explaining about her own family. Many children felt happy to describe their own family to the class and it was wonderful to hear about the many different families experienced in P6 and yet all in a very loving home. All learners approached this lesson with maturity and confidence, Miss Hawthorn cannot wait to see our discussion represented in our patchwork class quilt.

Mathematicians
Primary 6 have been continuing their BIG Maths learning. Every week Miss Hawthorn can see positive improvements with all learners whether it be with attitude, confidence or final results. This week has been no different. Heads down, time to begin!
It was fun learning about chance and probability. P6 are becoming more and more confident learning about the language used to describe odds. This week we enjoyed a horse race together. Every learner predicted their winner and explained why to the class. Then there was nothing left to do other than start the race! Ready…..set….GO!
Ravenswood Wildlife Garden
It was great to enjoy more outdoor learning with P6 and Carrick. Carrick has spent an incredible amount of time creating a wonderful entrance to our school building and a space that encourages wildlife in and around our school. P6 class members planted two different types on sunflowers to climb high above the new blue fence and some gorgeous smelling sweet peas too.
Of course now that P6 have spent so much time investigating outdoors, especially minibeasts, they could not help but take a closer look at some worms, spiders and insects in their natural habitat.
Welcoming day
Ravenswood enjoyed another visit from our new P1 children for next session. The turnout was fantastic and we are all loving having each happy new face working and playing in our school. As ever our great buddies were super. Miss Purdon and Mrs Simpson loved spending time with everyone who managed to come along. Miss Hawthorn snapped some photographs to tweet too. Remember to check out our work on our live twitter feed. (@RavenswoodPS)
P1 Subtraction
Our P1 learners are refining their skills as they learn about subtraction. We loved our active number lines with our furry teddy friends, got very competitive as we subtracted our bowling scores and hop scotched our way down the board subtracting the dice number. Well done P1, keep up the good work.
Jupiter Treat
Last term winners had a ball during their well deserved treat. Every Jupiter House member loved the inflatable slide and ball skills challenge. It was great to see the winners have so much fun, even the teachers joined in too. Super job!
P1/2 Assembly
It was great to see Primary 1/2 perform their class assembly with confidence. P1/2 managed to tell everybody all about time in a fun and engaging way. Dr Who even made an appearance! The hall was full, thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy the show.
Banking Experts
Today P1 put their skills in to practise that they observed in the bank. We loved using our skills as a cashier to sort coins using the real sorting trays. Our smartboard game helped us to count accurately. We know what different amounts look like in pounds and pence. P1 have been working so hard to get better at addition because we want to be as fast as the cashiers! Super job P1!
What A Wednesday!
Today was a super day for all of the infants here at Ravenswood. We braved the elements and marched up to Cumbernauld Town Centre to visit the Royal Bank of Scotland. Everyone was so nice and helpful teaching us how to be excellent cashiers and telling us what we can do to be super savers.
We checked the money carefully and used our skills in a real bank. We have our own bank now in school so we will be experts! After our visit to the bank we stopped by Tesco. We were looking for different items on our shopping list and comparing Fairtrade items to their regular counterparts. P1 and P1/2 found the Fairtrade symbol independently as we searched for bananas, coffee and chocolate. What a busy day! Tomorrow we are analysing our results. Keep checking our posts to find out more.
Maths Week in P1
Today we started Maths week with great success. We all are able to sort coins, identify coins and know what features are on bank notes. Miss Hawthorn can’t wait to see our own note designs.
