Home Learning for week beginning 20/4/20

Hello P1a

Hope you are all safe and well and hope you had a nice break and ate some Chocolate Eggs!!

I really hope that you can contact me through Microsoft Teams as it would be so lovely to hear from some more of you and see some more pictures as I am missing you all very much.

Below are ideas for home learning this week. (Please remember that these are only ideas and you don’t need to do them all).

Maths

I have a grid attached with a variety of activities you can work through for the next few weeks.

Studyladder – you should have your Studyladder login details but if you don’t please email me or contact me through Microsoft teams and I can get this to you.

Go to,

www.studyladder.com

Login and click ‘my individual programme’ you have 8 new tasks set for the week and these will be updated weekly. I can login to my teacher account to see how you are getting on with these activities so I look forward to doing that. This week activities on Studyladder are:

3 for Subtraction (1 is a tutorial)

5 for Volume   (2 are tutorials)

We were working on subtraction to 10 before we stopped school so this is for some practice and Volume is something we would have been learning more about this term. You can have fun in the bath or at the sink filling up different shapes and sizes of bottles, cups, bowls etc to develop your knowledge and understanding of volume. Use words like full, empty, more, less etc….

Phonics & Spelling

I am going to be posting weekly blocks of sounds and common words for you to practise along with some activities that will help.

This week the sounds are :

a   t   s   i   p   n

This week the common words are :

a    at    the   I    in    it    is    an   and

Here are activities you can do to practice these:

Activity 1 – Practice writing you sounds and common words. You can do this on paper with pencil, crayons, pens etc. You can do this outside using chalk, squirting water from a bottle, making them out of twigs and stones, be as creative as you can!

Activity 2 – Read and write some words starting with your sounds like ant, pig, sip …. and draw some pictures to match the words.

Activity 3 – Use some of your common words to write some sentences or tell an adult some sentences like – I got an apple from the fruit bowl.

Activity 4 – Make flashcards of your common words and try jumping on each one when an adult calls them out or read each one as you jump on them or even throw a ball onto each word and read them when the ball lands on a word or stick them on a wall and shoot them with something.

Activity 5 – Have someone give you a little test at the end of the week to write the sounds and spelling words you have been practising.

I would love to see any pictures of these activities.

Reading

Each week I will recommend a book from the Oxford Owl website and provide a written follow up activity. Feel free to read this book or you may choose another of your own to read.  You may have already signed up for Oxford Owl but if not you can create a free login to access the library of books using the link below.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Find the book: “Dad, Can You Do This?”

Read the book with an adult and talk about what happened in the story. (Check the first page of the book for a parent’s guide)

A written ‘Reading to Write’ activity is attached if you wish to complete a follow up task using the book.

Click here for follow up task for “Dad, Can You Do This?”

Attached is a Reading Bingo Grid – This can be used over the coming weeks for home reading ideas.

Health & Wellbeing

Continue to get daily exercise, perhaps a walk with your family or exercise classes online with Joe Wicks, Cosmic Yoga, Jumpstart Johnny or any other good resource you have been using.

IDL – Minibeasts

This term our theme is Minibeasts! Each week I will post some suggested activities linked to this theme.

Activity 1

When in your garden or on a walk, look for some minibeasts. Take some pictures of any you find and you could even take photographs of places that you think minibeasts might live. Remember to share your pictures on our Microsoft Team for all your friends to see!

There are written activities attached if you would like to print and use these.

Another Good Resource

BBC Bitesize Daily programmes and lessons will be starting from Monday 20th April. This resource aims to support parents and children learning at home.

BBC Bitesize Daily programmes will be available on any TV via the Red Button and online on any device on BBC iPlayer with teachers, experts and famous faces covering what each age group should be learning that day.

Bitesize Daily Lessons will offer a tailored learning experience for every age group between Years 1 and 10, drawing in the best of our existing BBC Bitesize content with activities and input from the best of the broader education industry, who have generously thrown their weight behind our work. These will be available via the BBC Bitesize website and will deliver a newly created Maths and English lesson every day, as well as a lesson in another curriculum topic, for each year group.

The first link below will take you to the Bitesize Homepage, while the second link provides you with a timetable of programmes for the week ahead. As this follows the English school system it starts at Year 1 which is the Scottish equivalent to P2. Some of these programmes may be appropriate for your child’s age and stage or offer some extra challenge.

Health Week Challenge

Hi P1a,

Something a bit different today…

Since it’s Ladywell’s health week this week I decided that I would make some healthy soup to have for my lunches.

At school we were going to make some Leek and Potato soup in class but since we can no longer do that I have made a little video of me making my soup at home… I’m no chef but I gave it my best! It actually tasted quite nice. 😋

You can watch the video and if you have the ingredients you can make the soup yourself with an adult. You can access the video in the files section of Microsoft Teams as it is too big a file to upload to the blog.

If you don’t have the ingredients you can make your own kind of soup and I could try making that at home over the next couple of weeks.

You could also tell me about a healthy lunch you have had and show/tell everyone how to make it.  We can all help each other stay healthy over the next few weeks!

You can share your own recipes, pictures and “how to” videos on twitter, by email (see posts below) or using the Microsoft teams app.

This is an optional activity and is just something I thought might be fun to do together when we can’t be at school.

IMPORTANT – Microsoft Team for P1a

In order to gain access to the Primary 1a Microsoft Team you have to log into glow on your web browser and access your child’s email account. To do this click ‘Mail’ on the launch pad. There will be an email sent from myself with a link that you must press to join the group before you are able to access it through the app.

*Microsoft Teams has been having some performance issues due to the unprecedented global demand on its service.

Microsoft Teams – Primary 1a

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well! Today I have set up a P1a Microsoft Team. This will hopefully allow you to share what you have been doing at home and give you the opportunity to keep in touch with me and your friends. You can access this by downloading the Microsoft Teams app and using your GLOW login and password which has been sent to you in an email throughout the course of last week. I have posted a test message so if you can please send a little reply so that I know who has managed to access this.

If you are having trouble with this or have not received your GLOW details please don’t hesitate to contact me at:
