Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and best wishes for 2016.  It is lovely to see the children so happy to be back at school and ready to work hard!  I have also enjoyed listening to their exciting and interesting stories from the holidays about presents given and received, places visited and people they saw.

Wonderful Wind Turbines!

Throughout our Energy topic P6 have been learning all about wind turbines. P6 worked hard to make their own wind turbine which could spin, as part of their homework.

It was very interesting to see all the different ideas. Well done P6!

Thank you to all the parents who helped too!

Here are some of the creations.

Monday Morning Music!

P6 are lucky enough to have Billy and Alan coming in to visit on a Monday at the moment. They are learning all about songwriting and their local area.

The children have been working really hard and they are looking forward to recording their very own songs!

We cannot wait!

Whitlee Wind Farm

Last Thursday P6 visited Whitelee Wind Farm.   We had a great day!

Heather – We took part in a workshop where we were able to test which shapes blades worked best on a turbine. The class were surprised that rectangle shaped blades created the most energy but are not used on the turbine because of safety reasons.

Morgan –  We got to the see the actual size of a turbine. I thought it was really interesting because I thought they would be smaller.

Kristian – I thought the tour guide was really funny.

Emma – It was really good. I got to hug a wind turbine.

Mrs James’ Leaving Assembly

On Thursday afternoon, the full school came together to say goodbye and good luck to Mrs James with a special assembly. Each class performed a song, poem or shared their favourite memories of Mrs James.

The children did Mrs James proud, as always.

Bonfire Night Haiku Poems

This afternoon, Primary 4/3 learned how to write Haiku Poems and then went on to create some of their own with a bonfire night theme. Please have a read at some of their poems below.

Kian

A hundred colours

in the dark night sky tonight.

A nice view at night.

Jessica

Bang pop off they go.

The beautiful fireworks bang.

fizz / sizzle / crackle.

Ethan

Bonfires  turn to  ash.

They spark  and  burn all the wood.

Bonfires are  the  best.

Freddie

A thousand  colours.

Shining at night in the sky.

Fireworks shine at night.

Rio

Red, yellow, green, blue.

All colours from the rainbow.

The fireworks go BOOM!

Cyra-Lee

I love firework night.

The fireworks are so awesome.

They are nice  up high.

Kaila

A thousand colours.

Shimmering in the night sky.

The bonfire is hot.
