Bill’s New Frock by Anne Fine

As part of a modelling block, P3 are reading ‘Bill’s New Frock’ by Anne Fine. Today the strategy we were focusing on was ‘Main Ideas.’ The main theme throughout the book is boys vs girls as the main character, Bill Simpson, was treated differently because he woke up one day as a girl.  We discussed and sorted different activities into 3 columns – boys, girls and both. The children discussed their opinions in trios and gave reasons why they thought only boys, girls or both boys and girls could do each of the activities. At the end, we realise that these activities being specifically for boys and/or girls is merely a matter of opinion and personal experience for every individual child. Well done, P3 – great work today!
