Three Reads Workshop

Recently, Mrs Cumming held a Three Reads workshop in the nursery.  She spent time explaining how the initiative works and the parents had the opportunity to experience it first hand.

Below you will see some of the feedback she received and a few photographs from the event.

Thank you for completing the questionnaires during our recent Early Literacy workshop.   Here are a selection of your findings:

‘I found it very informative.’

‘I was shown the key skills to help me to try it with my child.’

‘We will use props with our stories. My older child went through it and has a real love of books.’

‘Great to have this time to further understand the ‘why’ behind the ‘how’ something is being taught.’

Settling In

We have been very busy in the nursery, with lots of new children joining us for their first nursery year.   We are starting off this year by learning more about our Rights Respecting Nursery Charter and about Ollie the Octopus our RRS mascot.  We are also thinking about ways that we can be more independent in nursery, by learning our nursery routines.   Below are some photos of some of the other things we have been doing.

Woodland Adventure

We shared our experience with family this week.  It was a very rainy day but we didn’t mind getting wet.  We were too busy looking for little creatures which were hiding on logs, under the soil and on the tree trunks.  We discovered lots of them! Using magnifying glasses we had a closer look at our findings.

“I found creepy crawlies and picked up a slug.  It felt squishy!”

“My dad picked up a bit of wood and we saw slugs and tons of beasties”.

“A snail was sleeping in his shell.  I didn’t want to waken him up”.

“The snail had stripes on his shell”.

“A slug slides slowly”.

“My dad looked for ‘Pincy’. It is another kind of centipede that can suck up blood with his pincers”.

Woodland Adventures

Group 3

We went on a colour hunt on our way to the woods.  We recorded the different colours on a special spotter sheet by using our own written marks, such as ticks, lines and crosses.

“I saw some pink flowers in a garden”.

“The berries are red”.

“I found cream rocks in someone’s garden”.

“I saw some white daisies on the grass”.

Some of us made wonderful houses for the giraffes, leopards and elephants.  We used a tool called a rubber mallet/ wooden mallet to tap sticks into the ground to make the walls.  It was very important that we used the tools safely.

“I hammered the sticks carefully so that they wouldn’t fall down.  The leopard liked his new house”.

A fantastic den was created using ropes, pegs, fabrics and large sticks/branches.  We worked well together to carry the branches safely and place them in a large pile to make a really big gate. Doesn’t it look great?

“Some of the sticks were heavy.  My friend helped me to carry them”.

“I made a special gate with massive sticks.  I have big muscles in my arms”.
