John Carmichael Memorial

Victoria Cross hero honoured with Glenmavis tribute

A stone commemorating the bravery of Sergeant John Carmichael was unveiled at New Monkland Church exactly a century after his actions to save his WWI platoon.

The dedication of the stone honouring Sergeant John Carmichael was attended by depute lord lieutenant Abdul Abid, North Lanarkshire provost Jean Jones, Neil Gray MP, great-nephew Tom Carmichael and pupils from New Monkland Primary. (8.9.2017)

Primary 4 and Primary 5 visited the John Carmichael Memorial today 21.9.2017. Primary 4 shared their learning about John Carmichael with Primary 5.
