As an authority we are committed to closing the poverty related attainment gap and we are aware that that the socio-economic gap in cognitive development opens up well before children start primary school.
Studies have shown that good quality early learning and childcare can have a positive effect on the cognitive, behavioural and social outcome for children.
However, the uptake of the eligible 2 year old entitlement is low and in recognition of the importance of this the Scottish Government have launched a practicum, led by the Children and Young People Improvement Collaborative (CYPIC).
The practicum was open to 10 authorities and North Lanarkshire was successful in gaining a place.
The team charged with taking this forward are looking to find out if parents/carers are aware of the eligible 2 year old entitlement. To this end we are looking for as many people as possible to take our survey https://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=34127
The survey will allow the team to assess which areas need to be developed / enhanced around publicity and information awareness.
To assist us with this challenge I would ask that you complete the survey.
Any questions regarding the survey should be directed to Sandra and Karen in the first instance or the Intervention & Inclusion team on 01236 812281 or by emailing llsearlyyears@northlan.gov.uk
Thank you for assistance; your support in this area is greatly appreciated.
