Weather experiments

The children in the yellow group have been taking part in a variety of weather experiments.  This is developing the children’s understanding of how different types of weather occur.  We used boiling water, a paper plate and ice to create raindrops in a jar.  The children were very interested in this experiment and it helped their understanding of how rain happens in a cloud.  We also used water, shaving foam and food colouring to recreate a rain cloud.  The children were really surprised at how well this worked and were excited about it.  It was a good representation of how water droplets become too heavy and fall from a cloud.  We have made our own rain gauge and have been checking this regularly to measure the rainfall in our garden.  This is helping the children’s understanding of measurement and mathematical language.

We used a balloon to experiment with static electricity to help develop our understanding of storms and what happens in the clouds during a storm.
