Homework for Primary Seven

As has been noted in the ‘Meet the Teachers’ PowerPoint we felt that it was beneficial for children to have a few weeks to get back into the swing of school following the closure.

Homework between now and the October break will consist of:-

  • Japan Model Challenge (due 23rd Sept.)
  • Maths Challenge – if they choose to take part? (due 5th Oct.)
  • Sumdog each night.
  • Personal Reading of a novel at home each night.
  • Revise spelling words each night.

Japan Model Challenge

As I’m sure you already know, the class inter-disciplinary theme for this term is Japan. Pupils have been set a design challenge, details of which can be found on the link below.

In class, pupils have already begun their research of Japan and we have spent time thinking about the different styles & features of buildings.

Completed models are due into class Wednesday 23rd of September.

Maths Challenge

For a number of years now, pupils at St Joseph’s Primary have had a successful involvement with Strathclyde University and the Scottish Mathematical Council and it’s problem solving challenge.

The challenge is split into three rounds, two take place before Christmas with the third after.

Each round of problems are designed to be completed by pupils at home. In school we can give guidance and tips regarding layout but the solutions offered by pupils are to be their own work.

Usually each round consists of three questions and pupils should answer these on three separate pieces of paper. At the top of each piece of paper children should detail their name, class & school.  The first round is available on the link below.

The date for when solutions are to be in school is Monday 5th October, the entries are then posted off to Strathclyde University.

Reminders of due dates will posted on the class Glow page.

Virtual Trip Part Two

So the task today is different to yesterday’s in so far as you’ll require the use of your maths skills. There are links below, each to a different destination. You can choose to carry out challenge one – which is to cost how much it would take to travel there and to explore the attraction. There are no lockdown travel restrictions to think about, what budget do you think you would require? What time would you need to set off? Who in your family would go with you? Challenge two on the other hand is to create a summary of the virtual tour, make it persuasive in style.
