Back to working hard!

Room 8 enjoyed our time off in our October week.  Lots of us were on holiday and some of us visited family and friends. We are happy to be back at school and doing our normal work now that the Harvest Service is over.

In literacy we have started using our phoneme boards and magnetic letters to help us learn our new phonemes. We are becoming very confident completing our elkonin boxes and our sound buttons independently. Room 8 have started a new genre for Exciting Writing.  Our new genre is INSTRUCTIONAL WRITING. Since we have learned lots about the Harvest and the work the farmers do we wrote instructions about planting a seed.  We watched a video of a lady called Shanny planting a seed to help us. We can list using bullet points and number our steps in the margin.  We are beginning to choose time words like first, second, third, then, next, after, finally and last.

In maths we have continued learning about addition.  We now know 3 strategies – number line, number square and fingers. We have even started talking about which strategy is best.

In the afternoons we have been learning some French.  We can now say hello, give our names and tell others how we are feeling.  We have also been setting our own targets for maths, literacy and health and wellbeing.

Here are our last two weekly wonders.  Well done girls!
