The Kirk o’ Shotts Primary Netball Team competed in the Airdrie finals on Friday, after qualifying for a place from our group heats at the end of 2013. Not only did everyone involved play extremely well, but we WON the competition. We were awarded gold medals each as well as the competition shield for the winners. Last week we were set a dramatic challenge! We were asked to script our own mini-plays based around an aspect of peer pressure and to demonstrate the negative effects/potential consequences of this. We worked extremely hard and all performed with confidence in front of the other members of the class. Some of us even made props! Here are a selection of photos from the afternoon.
We were very busy this afternoon, preparing for Christmas. We were practising songs, painting snowmen for one of the friezes to go in the hall, making Christmas cards and cutting out tiny, tiny snowflakes. It was a very productive afternoon. 🙂

We went to Motherwell Heritage Centre to learn more about our Romans topic. Our guide, Hugh taught us a lot about the Romans in Britain and the many things they introduced which are still in use today. We also learned about how they bathed, ate and lived. Did you know?….there are remains of Roman baths at Strathclyde Park and that Hadrians wall was built by the Romans!? In the afternoon
We investigated how to make coins shiny using things you would find around the house. We used brown sauce, vinegar, Cif, Coke and Flash. Which do you think worked best……? Here are some pictures of us cleaning them. Maybe we can transfer our cleaning skills to the house now!
This week we made bruschetta using tomatoes, basil, red onion, garlic, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and bread. We didn’t think we would like it but it was amazing! We wanted seconds. We can show you how to make this if you would like to try it.
Bonjourno! We are enjoyoying our topic of Italy and have been learning lots about some of their famous cities. One of the cities we have looked closely at is Venice as this is the setting for our current book, ‘The Theif Lord.’ We created tourist information leaflets on Venice so if you ever want to visit, just as us what you should do there! We are beginning a new school year as Primary 6/7 with our new teacher Mrs Duncan. We also have Miss Barr who teaches us French and Music and Mrs Thomson who teaches us health. Today Gerry Durkin a story teller came into our class and told us lots of stories and sang us some songs and it was really fun and I felt really happy because I learned new songs and it was really fun to hear the stories.
