RME – Buddhism

Recently, in Room 4, our RME topic has been Buddhism. We have been studying things such as, who the Buddha is, and how the religion really started. We have been working on this for a while now and we have learned many things.

Some of the research includes finding out what they believe in, what restrictions they have, and the history of Buddhism. We found out that meditation plays a great part in Buddhism, along with staying calm, and realising that sometimes, things happen, and that’s that.

We learned about what the eight-fold path is. It includes Right Concentration, Right Understanding, Right Effort, Right mindfulness, Right livelihood, Right Action, Right Intention and Right Speech. It is said that if you follow the eight-fold path, you will uncover inner peace and understanding of life.

The Buddha was a Prince, named Prince Siddhartha. He was born into the lap of luxury and never witnessed anything ugly or unpleasing. One day, he left the palace, and saw the four sights; Old age, death, pain, contentment/holiness. He decided to give up his riches and leave on his own to find the answer to people’s suffering. He is now known as the Buddha.

 

Releasing The Trout

On Friday 11th march 2016 we were releasing trout that we kept in a hatchery for 4 weeks and every Tusday a man called Willie  came and on Friday he got all the trout into tubs. Willie, Mrs Shanks and Miss King walked us down to a local burn that Willie found. Miss King brought an ipad with her so she could  take pictures of us releasing the trout. When we got down to the burn Willie told  us what we had to do. We listened to him and did what he said. There was a little path going down and we went down kneeled down and put them in the red.

Church Easter play

Some of the boys and girls in the school have been practising with Mrs Todd for a play at the church. It is a short play about some grandchildren that think praying is silly and when their grandparents say they are praying for them, they just say its a load of rubbish. But in the end they realise they do it because they love them.

All Living Things Topic Update

My class have been doing a sience specific topic, we even got trout to tie into it. We have been learning all about flowers, bugs and animals. The topic is called All Living Things.

Our class got trout from Clyde in the Classroom and a man called Willy from the River Clyde Foundation came in and told us how well our fish were developing. We had a lot of fun caring for the fish but it was hard work because the tempature had to be just right. When we were releasing the trout into a local burn, Willy told us more about how the fish would survive on their own.

We drew trout and coloured them in with water pastels, our teacher Miss King made a river with some different blue paper, we then displayed them on out All Living Things display wall. We made habitat posters to also display on the wall.

On the 17th of March I went on Tigtag and I learned about the life cycle of an oak tree, what photosynthesis means and what is germination. Before we finish our topic I will try and learn about the willow trees.

I have enjoyed learning about all living things.

Release of the trout

On Friday the 11th of March in the morning we went to a quiz in Shotts and we were just behind St Patrick’s by two points but it was fun. In the quiz team there was Devlin, Jamie, Abby and Emma.

In the afternoon it was time to release the fish. We have been hatching brown trout  for four weeks  and a man called Willie came to help us each week. He works for the River Clyde Foundation . The first thing he had to do was to get the fish into little tubs and afterwards we went across the road a to a little burn that will go to a big reservoir down stream. When we were at the burn he was talking about where the eggs are laid and this is called a red. he also told us what will happen  to them . Then what we did was crouched down and then  we set them free. When we were down we took a very good selfie and then Willie said, ” I have never tried to do that.”  We got back and we were all taking about it and we thanked Willie and then it was time to go home.

I would like to say a big thanks to Miss King and Wille for helping us to keep the trout healthy.   🙂

P6 and P7

P6 and p7 have been learning about All Living Things. So we got 200 brown trout eggs to look after then we would release them in to our local burn.  When the trout go into the burn 80% die and 20% live.

People from Rockie Rock stars have taught us songs. One is called Never Give Up its a song telling us Never to give up they are really good.  The school are performing them on Thursday.

We had a quiz in Shotts we did good, we got second place.

We have just finished our book what is called Kensuke’s Kingdom.

Trout Release

On Friday the 11th of March Kirk o ‘Shotts were getting ready to go and let their brown trout go We were all full of emotions. We had to have suitable clothing and proper shoes that wouldn’t get wet. When we got all of that on, Willie, the man who comes in and checks on them every Tuesday put the brown trout into little tubs so we could take them to release. When we got there Willie told us what to do and asked us questions. We released them in a local burn.

When we were going to release the trout we stood in a line of three at a time. We had to be careful incase we fell in. When it was my time to release my trout I was so sad but also excited.

I want to thank Miss King for setting this up for the class. I had a great experience and I want to thank Willie for helping us through it.  I had a really great time doing it thank you so much 🙂

 

 

 

Releasing the Trout

trout 3P6/7 finally got to release their brown trout they were so excited. They released the trout into a local burn. Someone special came with them  to release their trout, he was called Willie. He was from the Clyde river foundation .

When they got to the local burn Willie talked for along time about how some of the trout will live and some will die, 80% of them would die and 20% would live. Then they walked closer to the burn and released them out of the little tub into the burn.

Dancing

For the past weeks some pupils from Room 3 and 7, including me have been learning and practicing a dance routine we are then going to use on Monday 21st March in a fun competition. The dance was created by Bronwyn, Abby, Andie and I. Currently everyone knows the dance and we are just perfecting it. We have a fair amount of props used in our dance including four stools, four school bags and four books. A lot of people have joined and dropped out of the dance group but we finally have our group sorted. The minimum number of dancers in a group is 5 and maximum is 20. The song you’re dancing to can be up to 2 minutes long and your group must compete in the category of the oldest dancer.

I am very excited and I’m sure the rest of the group are too. We are leaving on Monday morning and we will all have loads of fun.
