Kirk O’Shotts Primary School is a small school with 62 pupils, serving the village of Salsburgh and the surrounding farms and properties. The school is on the eastern outskirts of the village. Staffing allocation is 4.67FTE.
The current management structure is 1 Head Teacher, 0.6 FTE Principal Teacher, 1 – 0.4 FTE Acting Principal Teacher/0.6 FTE Class Teacher. There are a further 2 full time class teachers. We also have a probationer teacher.
We have 1 Learning Assistant, 2 part-time clerical assistants. We have a breakfast club assistant. Breakfast club opens at 8.15pm until 9am for all school children. We have 2 janitor/cleaners who operate individually from 7-10.30am and 2.30pm-6pm. The morning janitor/cleaner is also the Dining Hall Assistant from 11.30am-1pm. We have a catering team of 3 to provide and support lunches for the school and nursery.
The school building consists of 3 classrooms, 2 well-being bases, a nurture room, a resource room, and a P.E/resource storage room/cloak room. There are currently 3 classes (P1/2/3, P3/4 and P5/6/7).
Our school nursery currently has 20 children, with an expected 3 additional children taking the final number to 23. We currently 2 FTE members of staff and 2 part-time (17.5hrs). Our staffing structure consists of 1 FTE practitioners (1x35hrs) at NLC Grade 9 (Lead Practitioner), 1 NLC Grade 7 (35 hrs in January this will reduce to 30 hours), 2 NLC Grade 4 Early Learning Support Worker (17.5hrs). We have an outstanding vacancy for a NLC Grade 7(30 hours).
The dinner hall is in the extension. Breakfast club also operates from here. Early years has supported the introduction of Loving Lunches in our Nursery, supplying us with new furnishings for the dinner hall. The Nursery now have their own space in the dinner hall where the children can experience a more homely and nurturing lunchtime.
The school is part of the Calderhead High School cluster in Shotts.
