Primary 5 have been learning about angles in the school garden. They enjoyed looking for right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles and reflex angles.
We also loved working with Hidden Gardens to help develop our school gardens this week. We learnt about crop rotation and how to sow seeds. Hopefully our courgette, squash, french beans and runner beans will grow soon!
Attention parents of children in Primary 2! You will shortly be receiving a beautifully handwritten message from your child to advise you on how to use your various bins correctly. The children have been finding out about the benefits of recycling and the importance of doing it properly. Here they are hard at work on their notes to you!
As part of their garden topic, Primary 2 have began researching and planning the creation of a “Minibeast Sanctuary” in the school Sensory Garden. They know that encouraging insects and other small animals to the garden is good for the environment.
So far, the children have used the Internet to investigate different Bug Hotel designs and read about the sorts of materials that could be used for encouraging a range of wildlife. They have also drawn diagrams of how they would like the minibeast hide to look.
The boys and girls will scavenge for natural resources to make cosy crevices for the wildlife, although we would also appreciate donations of any of the resources listed below to help in the creation of the Bug Hotel.
Small plant pots, bamboo canes, clean bottles, some old building materials e.g bricks and drainage pipes. If you have any of these lying around your garden and would like to help us out, they would be much appreciated!
Today Primary 2 were in the Sensory Garden carrying out some of their garden chores. While we were weeding and tidying, we came across some fantastic mini beasts! Have a look at what we found. Can you name any of them?
Primary 2 have been discussing “The Learning Dip.” This is a point in your learning when you get stuck and think something is too hard. However, the boys and girls of P2 have learned about strategies to get back out of the Learning Dip.
Ben L – “To get out of the dip, you have to try and try again.”
Freya – “To get better, you need to reflect on your work to see how to improve it.”
Below is a link to the Class Dojo discussion videos so you can discuss them more at home!
We took advantage of the gorgeous weather to look for 2D shapes and 3D objects around the playground. Among the shapes and objects we found were square shapes (wooden posts and drains), rectangle shapes (windows), cuboid shape (container) and a sphere (football).
We have been having great fun finding out about the different kinds of weapons the Vikings used. We particularly enjoyed researching the various types of shields and then we designed and created our own Viking shields.
Primary 2 have been working hard to learn how to use grid references and co-ordinates! We played co-ordinate board games, ipads games and completed co-ordinate write and wipe challenge cards.
Paula from Hidden Gardens will be working in the school for the next 5 Wednesdays and is looking for you and your children to volunteer an hour of your time from 3-4pm to work in the school gardens. Many hands make light work. We look forward to seeing you.
