P4 Archaeological Dig
The boys and girls took part in an dig today to excavate some historical artefacts. They were asked questions to make them think more about the artefacts.
What do you think it is?
Who do you think it belonged to?
What do you think it was used for?
Where do you think it was found?
What is it made from?
Here are the P4 Archaeologists!
P4 Discover Tutankhamun’s Tomb!
We have been learning how to note-take and paraphrase during taught writing today. We are creating information reports about the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
P4 Egyptian Art Afternoon
Primary 4 have been busy using the mediums of colour, line and tone to create effective Ancient Egyptian style artwork. The boys and girls used clay to create cartouches and they used oil pastels to make lovely Egyptian sunset silhouettes. P4 also had a go at creating their own ‘Tomb Wall Royalty’ with a side facing Egyptian; don’t they look great!
P4 Mummification!
We took part in a co-operative challenge this afternoon to work as a team to mummify four of our classmates.
We then learned about the steps of Ancient Egyptian Mummification using a website called, “The Children’s University of Manchester” and wrote some great instructions; “How to Make a Mummy!”
Teach Your Teacher Day!
The children in Primary 5 have swapped roles with Miss Gillespie today and yesterday as she became a student and they became the teacher! All the children worked in groups to plan a 45 minute lesson. Each group worked well in their teams to think of a topic, write a lesson plan and organise all of their resources. We learnt about different art techniques, cars, South Africa, the Euros and different sports. Miss Gillespie was very impressed with all the aspiring teachers and enjoyed being a pupil for the morning!
Delightful Debating
Primary 5 were very passionate when debating about saving the rainforest today. The children worked in groups to debate for and against saving the rainforest. They each took on a role of a character and explored ideas of meat processing companies who need the land for cattle ranches. We also had some Greenpeace campaigners who explained that 20% of our oxygen comes from the rainforest and that many animals and indigenous peoples’ homes are being destroyed.
Learning in the Sunshine
Primary 5 have loved being able to learn in our fabulous gardens in the sunshine.
Expressive Arts
Today we were developing our skills in drawing still life objects. We looked at some of the flowers in our garden and discussed how everybody looks at an object differently. Some of us prefer to focus on the detail, whilst others like to look at the shapes and colours.
Taught Writing
We also enjoyed the sunshine whilst writing persuasive pieces of writing. We were trying to convince people to save the rainforests and to prevent deforestation.
Gardening
We have also been very helpful in making sure our vegetables and plants are being watered in the garden.
Moving Toys
P1a enjoyed exploring the force of pushing to make wheeled toys move. The children realised that wheeled toys move faster and further when pushed down a hill.
