Nessie and the P1 Burns Picnic

We have loved learning all about Nessie!  We have listened to stories about her, written about her, painted her, made a huge mural of her, built her with lego and plasticine … we are official experts!

Today we also had a Burns Picnic after our final Ceilidh dancing lesson.  We all liked the shortbread and oatcakes with Scottish cheddar cheese – however we LOVED Mrs Dunbar’s Clootie Dumpling!  Thank you!  🙂 DSCN3345 DSCN3260 DSCN3261 DSCN3273 DSCN3274 DSCN3275 DSCN3277 DSCN3281 DSCN3282DSCN3283 DSCN3284 DSCN3288 DSCN3346 DSCN3348 DSCN3349 DSCN3350 DSCN3351

Maths in action in Primary 1

In Primary 1 we have been learning about patterns and symmetry – look at all the different ways that we learn!

Here we are writing out patterns.

This is us making patterns with cubes.

We were really good at making symmetrical pictures with the numicon.  One person made a picture and then your maths buddy had to copy it and make sure it was symmetrical – matching!

This activity was about copying the picture – could me make it symmetrical?  YES! DSCN3257 DSCN3259

We love working with paint – we made beautiful patterns and also made symmetrical winter jumpers!

Primary 1’s Scottish Classroom

Primary 1 has become very Scottish as our purposeful play areas have changed.  We now have the Thistle Cafe which is open daily serving lots of different types of Scottish foods.  The children love role-playing as not only the waiter and chef but also as the customers – it is great fun listening to their conversations!  The children have each written a menu and have drawn or painted a thistle.

Our Post Office has now changed to a Tourist Information Office.  The children have discussed different places you might wish to visit and have made little information leaflets.  We have practised our “telephone voice” for answering the phone “Good Morning, Glenboig Tourist Information, How may I help you?”

Watch out Mrs Thomson – my class might be applying for your job!

Our information leaflets – why not think about visiting one of Scotland’s lochs, or castles we also have some great museums and parks and don’t forget about Edinburgh Zoo or Blair Drummond Safari Park.

Glenboig Christmas Show and Nativity

Today was dress rehearsal day … and our children,  as always did us proud!  They remembered all their lines, sang their hearts out with lots of actions and smiled all the way through both the P4-7 Christmas Show and the P1-3 Nativity!

Fantastic performance boys and girls … I know that all your mums, dads, grandparents and carers are just going to love the show tomorrow!

I hope you have your tickets – it’s going to be a full house!

Mary and Joseph visit Primary 1

Mary and Joseph began the month of December visiting Glenboig’s Primary 1 class.  They had a very busy day with lots of different learning activities:-

DSCN3125  The class watched “Geraldine the Giraffe” who tells us all about our new sound “h”.   We even thought about words from the Nativity – “holy, heaven, halo.”

DSCN3119  In Maths we are learning about 2d shapes.  Our different station tasks were: – to take photos of different shapes using the iPad, to draw and colour different shapes using a ruler and to make different shapes with plasticine.

Here we are very busy at all our language tasks.  Mary and Joseph watched us learn our new common words, make our own sentences and enjoy some time in our reading castle.

DSCN3114  We have also been practising our numbers and can sort number lines into order.

DSCN3124  You can’t visit Primary 1 without a stop off at our Post Office – Mary and Joseph popped in to buy a postcard!

A lovely busy day in Primary 1  …  we wish Mary and Joseph a super journey – only 24 more sleeps till Christmas!

Glenboig Post Office

Primary 1 has its very own Post Office which is open daily. This activity is part of our “purposeful play” where the children are encouraged to role-play and improve their talking and listening skills. It is a wonderful way for them to develop their expressive language as well as “write for fun!”

We have been learning about stamps and envelopes and next week we will write our letters to Santa.
