Super busy in P2 for STEM week!

P2 started off their week by learning about symmetry in maths. We used numicon, 2D shapes & mirrors to help us learn about this. We then worked in a trio where one group member told the other two to make a shape with their body and the other person had to make a symmetrical movement! Look at our symmetrical dab!

We then worked in groups to plan our minibeast hotel! We each had a role of either leader, writer, architect or speaker. We planned what minibeasts we wanted to attract to our hotel & then the materials we would need to build it. We also had to consider any problems we might come across when we build it and how we would resolve these. Our speaker then presented our idea to the rest of the class for feedback! We then went outside into the playground and forest to collect the materials for our hotels and collected some worms for our wormery in our classroom!

Tomorrow we plan to build our hotels! Stay tuned for photographs of the newest, most luxurious place to stay for Glenboig bugs!!

To finish off our very busy day, Miss Scott visited our class to show us her parachute and equipment she uses for skydiving!

Very busy day in P2!

Primary Two had a very busy day today… here are some pictures of our learning.

First we practiced our common words using active spelling stations – we had to make our spelling words using play-doh, pipe cleaners, magnetic letters and we even got to write the words on Miss Lawson’s board!

In maths, we were learning how to add three numbers together and we recorded it on our whiteboards. Then in Art this afternoon we worked together as a team to paint three dinosaurs, a volcano and the environment for our dinosaur wall display! Phew! What a busy day!

Dinosaur Eggs

P2 were excited to get a very special delivery this morning… two rare dinosaur eggs sent to us by a palaeontologist! She has asked if we can look after the eggs until they hatch… We are excited to predict what type of dinosaur will come out of them!

Today we also learned about dinosaur fossils and how palaeontologists have managed to figure out what kind of dinosaurs roamed the earth… we were given dinosaur bones (cotton buds!) and had to piece them together to form a skeleton.

Scottish Art

Today in Primary 3 we learned all about famous Scottish artist – Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We looked at some of  his work and discussed the features and colours. Miss Lawson set us a challenge to keep an eye out for his work in the world around us. Some of us already recognised it from pictures in our houses or on other household items such as placemats, mugs, furniture and jewellery!

We worked together in pairs to create our own Charles Rennie Mackintosh design using oil pastels.
