Rotary Young Technologist Competition
On Wednesday 9th of March 2016 3 teams of S2 represented Greenfaulds High School in the Rotary Young Technologist Competition held at Kilsyth Academy. Although some of the students were a little apprehensive, they soon got into the swing of building a bridge from various materials.
Their bridges had to meet a certain criteria. All the students met this criteria through hard work and effort. Overall everyone enjoyed themselves and asked could they come back next year!
YPI Project
The YPI is a project supported by the Wood Foundation which encourages young people to engage with local charities in their community. Participating schools identify groups to campaign for local charities, with the winning group being awarded £3000 for their chosen charity. In Greenfaulds High School students in S2 in Modern Studies were chosen as the year group to take part in this project.
The winner of the £3000 Youth Philanthropy award was local charity PALS (Play and Learning Support), which works with children in the local area between the ages of 3 and 16 who have special needs providing them with activities such as soft play, teen scene, swimming, lego therapy, micro fitness, fun & games night, music class, day trips, cinema trips and support group for the parents/carers. The winning group consisted of Mhairi Stewart, Leah Stewart, Emily Miller, Amy Thomson and Shauna French.
Greenfaulds High School Drama Group
Greenfaulds High School Drama Group hosted a drama day for Gaelic speaking primary schools from across the Central Belt on Thursday 3rd March. The event took place at Cumbernauld Theatre. Eighty primary school pupils from schools including Condorrat Primary School in Cumbernauld, Riverside Primary School in Stirling and Meadowburn Primary School in Bishopbriggs attended the day.
The day consisted of pupils participating in workshop including drama, performance, circus skills and green screen. Pupils from Greenfaulds High School also showcased their skills, presenting their films which included the film ‘De th’ ann an gaol?’ which won the award for Best Mobile Short Film at the FilmG awards in February. The film can be seen on the drama group’s website, www.cruthaich.org. Drama days of this type have been hosted by the drama group in the past and it is envisaged that this will continue to be the case in the future.
