School Closure Support Kit

Hi all,

We are hopeful that this toolkit will help support your child at home during this time of uncertainty. For a child with autism, visual supports can help to decrease anxiety and increase independence across all settings. This toolkit provides you with all that you will need to help structure your child’s day at home, no matter his/her age.

We are missing everyone today and are available for support through ClassDojo if you need us!

Firpark Primary School

Letter From Executive Director Derek Brown

Dear Parents /Carers

Following advice from the Scottish Government to close educational establishment today, we fully recognise that from today children and young people may be at home for a long period of time and we have produced a suite of materials to support their learning – further information about materials will be sent to you in due course.

Understandably, this is an unsettling time for children, young people and their carers and many people will be feeling anxious about the current situation and the impact that it may have on the health and wellbeing of family, friends and colleagues.

For this reason we have also included information to help you reassure your child.  Many of these resources have been developed in collaboration with South Lanarkshire Council.  The attached document provides some advice and guidance.

We will continue to up-date this resource and ensure that it is widely available online.  You will be notified of these updates next week.

Thank you for your on-going support during these challenging times.

Executive Director

STEM Workshops

Siemens Mobility STEM Ambassadors visited Firpark Primary School last Thursday. They hosted lots of engaging workshops that all of our pupils thoroughly enjoyed.

The STEM Ambassadors had a fun day teaching us how complex signalling can get used using a large wooden layout.

Thank you so much to @BRIO_UK for donating their SmartTech Trains that made the workshop possible and so @SiemensMobility(Glasgow) who donated the resources to the school after the workshhop!

Letter from REACH Lanarkshire Autism

Good afternoon,

I am an activity Coordinator for REACH Lanarkshire Autism. We have recently been funded by NLC to develop new groups in the Motherwell area. We currently have a Teen group age 12-16 and a Youth group age 8-11yrs.
We run these sessions in Holy Trinity Church , Crawford street, Motherwell.

In order for a parent/carer to access these groups they will need to become a member.  As a member, they can join our private Facebook pages.  Our REACH Lanarkshire Autism Activities page is where they will find relevant information on REACH activities posted daily, and any special one-off events, trips etc.   As well as seeing what activities are available for their child, they can ask for a place, or for their name to be added to waiting lists.

Our REACH Lanarkshire Autism Support page is very popular with our members who share their experiences to help each other.  We also have a REACH Lanarkshire Autism Community page which has been set up for members to come together to have a chat about autism, life, training, events, meet ups etc.

Family Support Worker, Joanne Craig, can point them in the direction of any services suitable for their child as well as supporting them as a family whether that be emotionally or for general advice. She can be contacted on 0141 641 0068 if they feel they would like a chat before joining.

If you would like to become a member, please log onto our website:

and click on ‘memberships’ where they can complete our online membership form.  This will allow their details to appear on our secure online database.

Thank you for your time

Kind regards
