Meet P6!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first two weeks with Miss Wallace. We have been very busy getting to know one another. All of us have been working in our new classroom and also outside, when it is dry.

Last we created a new individual point system for each member of our class. It is called Money Maker. We try hard every day to earn money to put into our bank. There are three different prizes boxes we can work up to. It is our choice to pick from the £10, £20 or £30 prize box once we have the correct amount of money in our bank. It is really exciting!

In P.E. we have been working on our fitness. Miss Wallace was impressed with our basketball skills and general fitness.

We are looking forward to our year ahead!

Scottish Opera

On Friday we are performing Warriors, the Emperor’s Incredible Army to others. P5 s will be The Builders, P6 are the Soldiers and P7s are The Peasants. We will be performing alongside Scottish Opera singers. Roger came to work with us prior to the Easter holidays to improve our singing. We will be singing a variety of songs to tell the story about the emperor. The story is set in China 2000 years ago. Watch this space for further updates!

P6 Live Debate

Should the voting age be reduced from 18 years old to 10 years old in Scotland?

On Friday afternoon we held a live debate in our classroom. Primary 6/7, Mrs McIntyre and Mrs Woodward came to watch us. The chairs were laid out like the Scottish Parliament. The Presiding Officer was Caeley. She sat at the front and all the chairs faced her. The Presiding Officer was in charge and handed out the voting sheets. Six MSPs spoke, there was a question and answer session and then everyone had to vote. Yes had 35 votes and No had 8 votes.

The bill was therefore passed. We were so good, at the end, Mrs Woodward gave us a five minute extra playtime for behaviour treat.

What do you think? Should the voting age be reduced from 18 years old to 10 years old in Scotland?

Superhero Science

Today P6 took part in a Superhero Science Workshop. We designed our own superhero called Electron. He had electronic, camouflage and mind reading powers. Our superhero had to try and defeat the evil scientist.

We also found out about different areas of Science. Here are some facts: –

  • Cuttle fish are one of the best camouflaged animals to exist.
  •  Viruses can trick yourself to make more viruses.
  • When a person is weight lifting, their muscles break and then they grow back stronger.
  •  Evolution allows the best version of specie to exist
  • When viruses become cold they stop moving.
  • If a person struggles to hear the hearing aid is a small microphone inserted close to their ear

Our Visitor from the Scottish Parliament

Yesterday we had a visitor from the Scottish Parliament, called Mr Clarke.

He shared a lot of information about the Scottish Parliament with us. For example, did you know that the Presiding Officer can turn off any MSPs microphones at any time? This usually happens when a MSP talks for too long in the Debating Chamber.

Mr Clarke gave each member of P6 a power volt. This device was used to answer questions and also used to vote.

Our first activity involved working in groups of 5. Each group acted as a political party. Within each party someone had to take on the role of Party Leader. Each Party Leader had to make a speech to the whole class. This speech was known as a manifesto. A manifesto are promises a party make to society before a public vote.

During the second activity we had a live debate. Finlay took on the role of Presiding Officer. He did really well chairing the debate. Most people voted for yes and therefore a bill was passed, Children should only go to school 4 days a week. What are your views on this?
