Maths Division Week

We have been starting division with three digit numbers its a wee bit tricky but were getting the hang of it. We are dividing by 10, 100, and 1000. some tasks we have been doing match attack division. For this we played in pairs and had to work out division sums against the football players. we took part in maths stations to do with dividing and multiplying y 10, 100 and 1000.

In big maths we have been partitioning two decimal place numbers for example 4.9 so the four would be four and the nine is zero point nine witch makes it 4 and 0.9 have a look at the power point of our work.

Maths Week!

This week has been Maths week and as a school we have been focusing on pattern. We have had a very buys, full week making sure we are doing lots of pattern activities.

We used our novel in Literacy to place main events into a sequence. We then looked at number sequences in maths for example- 2,4,6,8 is going up in 2’s. We also learned square numbers which means multiplying the number by itself. 4 squared is then (4×4) which is 16.

We also created Artwork to do with pattern. We created Escher artwork which is the repetition of fish and we then coloured these in pattern we wanted. In groups we also created animals which have a pattern. For example a zebra!

We have been really busy learning and creating our own patterns also.

Violet- I liked challenging myself on all new aspects of maths.

Aaraa- I liked creating the fish patterns.

Alfie- I liked taking part in pattern art.

Craig- I liked creating my own patterns with the time table squares.

Jenna- I liked the maths colour in patterns to see how this would end up.

Our hard work

P.E

in PE we have a basketball coach called Adam. He has worked with us for three weeks and we learn how to shoot in a basket it was hard but we had to concentrate. We were put in different teams and played against each other. It was fun playing basketball by the rules!

We have then started a whole class novel called Granny Nothing. The novel is about children that need someone to look after and there was nanny sue so she looked after the children she is really mean the children hate her .so there was another granny they never knew about her and they just met her and she took the blame that the children could miss school and dad was angry because he was in in a meeting and he got a call from the school saying the children have missed school.we cant wait to read more of the book!!!

We had a small mini topic about Sound and Light and we managed to them do a light experiment!

We even created our own version of Vincet Van Goghs creation of “Starry Night”.  Look at our pictures in this great PowerPoint!

Enjoy a short performance from P5/6

Max – we’ve been improvising. Improvising means it’s not in a set pattern, we can conduct in a funky way. We got boys to do circles and girls to do squares. It was a 2 beat rhythm.

Caoimhe – we had different beats.

Marty – we got to have different conductors.

K’nex specialist

On Tuesday a K’nex specialist called David worked with the K’nex after school club. David taught us how to make triangles, cubes and bridges. He demonstated how to make K’nex models to be strong. Third year pupils from Chryston High came over to look at our bridges and inspected them against the criteria. We all did really well and thoroughly enjoyed our morning.

Robert Burns Afternoon with P6/7

Yesterday P6/7 invited us to a Rober Burn’s super. We had lots of fun we had some having haggis neeps and tatties with a drink of Irn Bru. After we had finished our supper and we danced to he Grand Juke Of York. We were not very good at it though. We sang lots of songs to celebrate Robert Burns Birthday. This was a fun afternoon and P5/6 were happy to be invited .

Our learning

We have been revising place value and we can do it up to 4 numbers long. We have also been learning about electricity and one day when the Primary 5s were away the P6s made circuits and the next day we showed the P5s what we know. We tried a experiment with a light bulb and a lemon. We had to use a zinc screw and a copper penny. Then we had to stick the copper and zinc in to the lemon. After that we stuck the wires on to the copper and zinc then added it to the light bulb. But it didn’t work.imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

2D shape

P5/6 have just completed a block of learning all about 2D Shape. We have looked at parallel and perpendicular lines, regular polygons, irregular polygons and different types of triangles.

Here we are below making different types of triangles. Can you guess if it is an equilateral triangle, a scaline triangle, right angled triangle or an isosceles?
