Scotland theme

On Wednesday we went to the gym hall to see hopscotch which was all about Robert Burns. It was all about Robert Burns last supper and there was a girl in it that had to play thirteen parts while the man just had to play Robert Burns. At the start of it the girl came in as the divil to say that he was going to die. In this we learned a lot of facts like he became a very famous Scottish poet and song writer.

We are doing a topic all about Scotland and the Scottish parliament we are doing lots of stuff about Robert Burns. we made post cards for homework showing what Scotland means to us. We are making Robert Burns posters in class with our co-op learning groups and we have to research and write facts about him.

We also made maps with our group of where Cites are in scotland and where famous landmarks are in scotland we had fun doing it.

what we have learned

We made carrot and coriander soup on the 22nd of January. To make this soup you need carrots, potatoes and coriander, which is a type of herb. You need water and a vegetable stock cube. We worked with our co-operative learning groups to make this soup. Once the soup was cooked we tried some of it and it was nice.

This week we also made kilts as an art and maths activity. We needed to draw a type of tartan using our parallel and perpendicular lines. It was quite hard at first but then it ws easy once we had practised it. We all enjoyed it. We used our shading skills to shade in the squares.

We also learned about circles that they have a circumference, a radius and a diameter. The circumference measures around the circle, the radius mesures from the middle to the outer side of the circle and the diameter measures from one half of the circle to the other. We found it very interesting and it was fun using the compass.

We learned how to use the compass to make a perfect circle and we made a picture using the circles from the compass. Courtney made a panda and Kayla made a flower.

We are learning songs for the scottish afternoon our songs are loch lomand and highland catherderal. We are also learning a poem called to a mouse by robert burns.

Have a look at our picture gallery to see our kilts and us hard at work making soup!

Church visit

On Friday 13th we went to see Chryston parish church and ask question about the church. Mr Malcolm took us on a tour around the church and showed us all the rooms in the church. The rooms were the snuggle room, the play room, main room and much more. Then we had to go round the church for a treasure hunt in groups of three. Then at the end of the treasure hunt we designed our own church and what it would have in it. We were asking some questions at the end of the tour like why do we sing hymns?

We have learned a lot of things like how long he works= 12-14 hours a day, what Mr Malcolm was before and much more= he was a waiter, mechanic and now is the minister of Chryston parish church.

visit from author

On Wednesday we had an author come in and tell us about his book. He was called Stuart Reid. He was so funny and silly! The main character in his books is called Gorgeous George. He has written 3 books and the 4th one will come out next year. He read some of his books and they sounded silly and good. He has been to different school and just this year he was at London book fair. He talked about visualisation which is a reading strategy we do in class. It help us have a picture of parts of the book in our head – like a little movie. He also talked about alliteration which is words starting with the same letter e.g. silly snake slithers slowly, e.g. cautious cat creeps carefully . We learned a lot from him and are looking forward to our next story writing task!

Our Third Week Of School!

This week we have been doing alot of hard work. We have been doing P.E, Maths and our new topic the U.S.A.

In P.E. we are doing gymnastics. This week we were making creative balances using different parts of our bodies and different numbers of parts of our bodies.

In maths we have been doing lots of place value practice. Yesterday we also did a maths quiz that was like a treasure hunt. We all had to go round the class room trying to find the questions, work out the answers then read where it told us to write the answer to that questions!

This year our first topic is U.S.A. In our new topic we have been doing state hunts around the class room. We had to find all the fifty states and write them on a map. We have been doing slideshows and posters about U.S.A. in I.C.T time. We all think this is a brilliant topic. We also have been doing homework about U.S.A. We have been doing facts for our homework. We are learning a song that helps us to remember the 50 state of the USA.

Todays bloggers are Craig and Dylan!

what we have enjoyed last week in p6

We have enjoyed going in to groups and learning new things. We did a poster or presentation all to do with Curriculum for Excellence. We made a poster telling about the four capacities; successful learner, confident individuals, responsible citizen and effective contributor. We enjoyed it and all the presenters did a great job. Look at the pictures of us presenting below!

Also we had a air balloon and on it we wrote what lifts us up and what pulls us down. Here are some ideas art, computers, iPads, colourful class room, language and maths.

We are making a poster all to do with health – here is some ideas fruit and veg, exercise, sleep and fresh air.

We had ICT and went on to spelling city and played lots of games we went on to other websites and played lots of games. At the same time Miss Rae was helping us all to go on our e-portfolios. Some people have forgotten their passwords so we need to get that fixed then we can all update our e-portfolios lots!

This is us so far this week!

Bloggers – Alicia and Kayla. (We should have told you – we have a main blogger each week as a classroom job and for this week it is Alicia!)

The New Primary 6!!

Our teacher this year is Miss Rae. Miss Rae is very nice and kind, and she is helping us learn new things. It`s good to be back after a long summer holiday. We have all been working hard and settling into our new class. We have been revising some sounds like – a, e, i, o and u.

We have three new students Leah, Dylan and Scott. We are helping them to settle into Chryston Primary and into our class.

We are starting to learn science with Mrs Allan. Mrs Allan is also helping us learn German.

We are all looking forward to starting a new year in P6. Soon we are starting a class novel together on Monday and some of us are looking forward to it. We are just starting off and we are having a great time.

This is P6 class blog and this blog was brought to you by Emma A, Emma C and Alicia. Keep an eye out for more posts – we will keep you updated on all the things going on in P6!

Our Science Experiment

In Science we did an experiment to see if by changing ingredients in a salad it would still make them look the same. First we all sat down on the carpet and went through a book that Miss Rae had made for us in ibooks. At the end of the first chapter, it told us about what our task was. We were to make our own salad using many different ingredients, Miss Rae told us that we could pick one item that we could swap and we could take two other ingredients. We sorted ourselves into groups of 5 or 6. Then we chose two people to chop up the food for us. Then we began making our salad. Some of the ingredients we used were lettuce, tomato, potato, celery, sweetcorn, vinegar, salad cream and a couple more. When we were finished, we all got to try some of the salad the other people made. They all looked delicious! From doing this experiment we learned that a small change in the ingredients of something, can have a huge change in the results. We learned that it doesn’t make one better than the other though.

Science Week

By Alex – This week we’ve been learning loads about science. We did an experiment over the whole week and my group measured the height we dropped the meteor from and it was really fun. The science roadshow was in the school today and we learned how the digestive system works and some people volunteered to do some mini jobs. Lewis did a catching job where he had to catch poo (it wasn’t real). This week we made stories of silly scientists and most people really like them. Miss Rae had brought lots of science things in to show us which helped us with our stories. We made a science word wall and had a word bank to help us come up with ideas. We used our imagination and good writing to engage the reader. To end the week, we dressed up as scientists today.
