On Tuesday, Primary 6 were lucky enough to go to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. When we arrived, we were so excited and we couldn’t wait to go inside. We got a warm welcome from Hayley, who was part of the education department. She took us to the education department and told us about the building. Then we learned about reserved and devolved matters. Reserved matters are dealt with at a UK Government level while devolved matters are dealt with by the Scottish Parliament. John Wilson came to answer our questions and he told us a little bit about his job.
Afterwards we went to the debating chamber and we saw Alex Salmond, the presiding officer and the president of Malawi. It was a privilege to see an African president. After that Hayley told us about the debating chamber it was amazing to go into the debating chamber.
Next we got a tour by Hayley and on the way we met Elaine Smith and Jim Logue and we got a fabulous picture with them. It was a very fun and interesting day. We all loved it!

What an experience P6! I was watching the Scottish news that evening hoping to see a clip of your class. I hope you remember this trip as a fantastic learning experience!

This was obviously an excellent trip as I have heard so many of you taking about it. You had a very special visit too, there while the president of Malawi of on an offical visit. Can you tell me why she was vsiting the Scottish Parliament?
