Happy New Year

Primary 5 have had a busy few weeks back at school. Here are some highlights!

We have been learned about fractions with Miss Walker.  So far we have been identifying different fractions using pictures and numberlines. We have also been learning how to work out fraftions of qualitieds for e.g 1/3 of 60= 20.  Next we will be moving onto exploring equivalent fractions.

In literacy we have been exploring feature of poems. We have learned about Onomatopoeia, alliteration, similes and metaphors. We also explored some poems written in old Scots by Robert Burns in preparation for our Scottish assembly.

Our topic this term is called Clyde In The Classroom.  The launch was on Friday in the Science centre in Glasgow.  Unfortunately we had to go home because of the weather but we are having a visitor out to the school soon to give us all the information we need.

BBC Children In Need

On Friday we took part in events for Children in Need Day. Children in need help children in the U.K who are poor and who don’t have the same chances as  other kids. Pudsey is the mascot for Children in Need. The organisation is a charity and they raise money.

In the morning we had a dress down day. We donated £1.  Then we watched clips about Children in Need.  The morning was fun. Then we went in groups to create a Pudsey collage, it was a competition. We used large sheets of paper and bits of coloured paper.

After playtime we went to see an animal expert at zoo lab. He had a snail, tarantula, bearded dragon and a snake for us to look at. Then we went in to the hall to have fun. We could decorated our own cake. Then I went on the laptop to play Pudsey games.

At the end of the day we went to the bake sale, there wasn’t much left. The people who had got a cake waited until the others came back. Then we had golden time. It was a lot of fun and we helped raised money for a great cause.  As a school we raised £425.
