Our Topic-Life in the 1970s

We have been doing some research on the I-pads to find out about the 1970s.  We have found out that lots of things were different in this decade. We found out about different singers, toys, clothes, shops, famous people and all sorts of different facts.  One of the facts we found out was that in 1971 Lego had a 40th anniversary.  We collected different facts about each the years and gathered them together with pictures on a poster.  We also found out about different hairstyles that were popular at this time.  One of them was the punk style.  In 1979 mobile phones were introduced.  Also, in this decade, the walkman was released.  We are looking forward to finding out some more information about this decade.

The Vikings

We have been learning about the Vikings and have found out lots of interesting facts. Did you know they first invaded Britain in 793?  We have enjoyed learning about Viking homelife,  in particular what they wore and what foods they ate. We investigated the Viking alphabet and we made Viking runes using clay and carved our names on them.

Viking Ships

Our favourite part has been learning about Viking ships. There were different sizes of ships and they could carry between 30 and 60 people.  They built their ships in a very skilled way so they could sail up narrow rivers and survive in the oceans.  Therefore, the Vikings

were excellent carpenters and engineers as well as invaders.

In class we researched the true measurements of a Viking ship then we went outside and used chalk to draw it on the ground.  We made detailed drawings. For our homework task we made 3D models of Viking ships.
