Maths Week

This week we have been spending most of our time

on maths activities as it is maths week.  Primary 4’s

focus was weight. We learned some new vocabulary

all about weight such as kilogram and balance.  We

used these words for our spelling tasks. We

completed 4 active maths stations.  For station 1 we

weighed lentils and rice and we ordered food items

from lightest to heaviest.  For station 2 we weighed

classroom objects using balance scales and weights.

The final 2 stations focused on estimation and

calculating specific weights. We enjoyed making

the focaccia bread and we had to use our knowledge

of weight to measure the ingredients accurately.

We also enjoyed the maths quiz and are looking

forward to finding out who the winners are.

During art we recreated Viking sails using repeated

patterns.  We also learned a range of weight facts

such as 1kg=1000g, 3/4= 750g, 1/2kg=500g,

1/4=250g

Fundraiser!

Today Primary 4 took part in a fundraiser to help

raise money for our school.  The money raised will

be spent on us for e.g to help reduce the cost of our

trips.  We were asked to bring sponsor money and

in return we had a fun, sporty day at school.  There

were four stations in the hall and we had PE outside.

The favourite part of our day was the bouncy castle.

We enjoyed wearing our sporty clothes.

Review of Term 3

In literacy, we have been learning different spelling rules and we have found out that some words follow the rules and some do not.  We have also been learning different reading and writing strategies.

In maths, we have been learning about the 2, 4 and 8 times tables, adding and subtracting money, telling time and jigsaw numbers to 10.

Our topic has been about The Rainforest and we have been learning about wildlife, plants and tribes who live there.  The biggest rainforest is the Amazon.  Chopping down trees causes a hazard of CO2 in the air.  This is called deforestation.  If we keep chopping down trees we won’t have clean air and it could kill animals. We have found out about the different weather changes within the rainforest  also.

We have been learning how to dribble in basketball.  We also worke on different passes like, overhead pass, bounce pass and chest pass..

We have also been learning different skills in skipping.  Some were very tricky but we improved on them and got better.  We have also been doing some long rope skipping which was really fun.

In art, we have painted butterflies, rainforest animals with pastels, pictures of rainforest plants and learning how to put detail into our drawings.

In science, we have been learning about hand washing and we are now more aware of how to wash our hands properly.

RME

We have been learning about Synagogues.  This is a

meeting place for Jewish people.  On the front of a

synagogue there is a Star of David.  A Star of David is

made up of 2 inter-linked equilateral triangles. We have also been learning about how Jewish people celebrate in different ways.  We learned that a Rabbi would take the scroll and use a Yad to read from it so that it didnt get torn or ruined.

Rainforest Topic

We have enjoyed drawing the rainforest plants and

animals and learning about the layers of the rainforest.

We have found it interesting to find out about global warming and how that works.

There are lots of different rainforest animals and plants and we have learned new facts about them.

We also made trees for our class display to show

where the animals live.

We learned about the 4 layers of the rainforest.

They are called the forest floor, under storey, canopy and emergent.

We have also learned about the life cycles of rainforest animals.
