Outdoor Learning Afternoon

What a great day we had on Thursday afternoon at outdoor learning. We learned how to safely start a fire, maintain and look after it and make it safe when we were finished. We even got to toast marshmallows – yummy!!

We had great fun working together in teams designing and making our own den using a variety of materials. To help us secure our den we made our own pegs from branches found around the area.

Finally we got to chill in our dens as we read our stories to our friends. Wouldn’t it be great if everyday was as good as this!!

Sound

Our new topic is all about sound. In some of the pictures below we are learning about instruments that make sound  by plucking, shaking, banging and blowing.

We also looked at why animals ears stand up, researched lots of interesting facts about sound and identified a number of sounds we could hear played online.

We have learned that sound is made by vibration and we know how to make sounds louder or softer.

Watch out for some of our experiments coming up soon!!

Fruit Kebabs

Six lucky children had the opportunity on Friday to make fruit kebabs as part of their Golden Time activity. They showed super safe skills when using their knife to cut up the fruit for their kebabs. There was even enough fruit left over for the rest of the class to have a little taste. Another six children will get the opportunity to try this next week – so yummy.

Golden Time – Smoothies

The children decided they wanted a healthy eating activity for golden time. They loved choosing the fruits, yogurt and fruit juice for their individual smoothie.

Later they had a go and tasting each other’s and the apricot smoothie came out favourite!!

Next week another 6 children will get the opportunity to make their own smoothie.

Symmetry

In class this week we started to look at symmetry.

On Friday we had to think of things we had in the class that we could use to show patterns with one or more lines of symmetry.

We used the chalk board, whiteboard and smartboard to draw some symmetrical pictures. We also found a variety of other materials that we used to make up pictures, shapes and 3D models.

We had great fun!!

Physical Activities – Skipping and Elastic Ropes

Over the past few weeks we have been learning new skills in P.E.  This has involved us using skipping ropes and elastic ropes. Skipping may look easy, but take it from us, it is really much harder than it looks. However we didn’t give up easily. We persevered and just kept trying until we got better and better and better. Mrs Mutch said that skipping and elastic ropes were a blast from the past!!
