Bikes and Scooters

What a fun time the children had today as part of the schools Health Week focus. Out came the bikes, scooters and even a pogo stick as the children  enthusiastically tried out a range of different activities with their chosen mode of transport. I’m sure they will sleep tonight, I know I will!!

Enterprise

Children are busy setting up an enterprise in order to sell their CD’s. They worked well in their cooperative groups and are looking forward to voting for their favourite company name, logo and slogan to get their business up and running.

Science Investigation

In our science investigation we wanted to find out if sound could travel through liquid, although we were pretty certain it did!

We decided to extend our investigation a little by using three different materials to make the sound under the water.  We chose glass (under strict supervision), stone and metal, as we wanted to check if the pitch and volume levels would change if we used different materials.

We predicted that glass would be higher in pitch and in volume and it was!!

Day Trip to Sound Studio

As part of their IDL topic the children in P3/4 visited a Sound Studio in Coatbridge. When they were there they were given the opportunity to try out a variety of different musical instruments, with expert tuition from our very own music man Kenny. The children loved this and developed their music skills when they learned a 4 bar beat for the drums. To make their day even more exciting they cut their very own CD which they have decided to market and sell!! This CD will soon be available for you to purchase for a small cost.

Sound

More fun activities relating to our topic on sound!! Check out the children having fun with their home made phone. The children were amazed at how clearly they could hear one another. When the string started to fall out, through overuse, they came up with the idea of taping it to the cup. However when they did this they discovered that it muffled the sound and they could not hear each other as clearly as they had previously. Lots of learning happening and the children didn’t want to put them away.
