Big maths with our new classmates

All the primary 3s have been together again this week. This time we worked on Big Maths.

Calum Stewart said it’s not Big Maths, it’s Bigger Maths.

We had to do 2 Learn Its as we are both working on differnet ones.

Here is a picture of our Learn Its from the IWB.

We also had to do 2 differnt tasks for It’s Nothing New

Here is some examples of our work.

Together again

We were very lucky over the last 2 weeks week as all the primary 3s have been together for literacy. It was nice to have our old classmates back. For literacy we were working on a traditional tale ‘Peter and the Wolf’. We all enjoyed the story and after we heard it we made character studies of Peter.

Primary 3 love shapes

Primary 3 have been learning about shapes. We were naming 2D and 3D shapes and we made a cuboid using a net. We learned that a cuboid has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 corners. A cube has the same number of faces, edges and corners as the cuboid.

We learned about other 3D shapes too.
A cone has 2 faces, 1 edge and 1 corner.
A sphere has 1 face, no edges and no corners.
A cylinder has 3 faces, 2 edges and no corners.
A square based pyramid has 5 faces, 8 edges and 5 corners.
A triangular prism has 5 faces, 9 edges and 6 corners.

We had fun learning about shapes-Melanie Grace
It was great fun finding out about all the shapes-Kyle
I liked finding out about edges and corners-Robyn
It was marvelous learning about things we didn’t used to know-Coral

All about magnets

A magnet sticks to some types of metals-Alfie
The metals that sticks to magnets are iron, steel and nickel – Calum S
They have magnetic fields around them; we can’t see this field-Cole and Aaron
There are 2 poles called the south and north poles-Alfie, Eva and Hannah
Magnets can stick to each other only if the poles are opposite-Paul

We have been testing things to see if they are magnetic or not-Hannah
Paper clips are magnetic-Elliot
