Red nose day 2015

We loved red nose day in Primary 3. We got to paint our faces funny for money; Eva got to paint Miss McGregor’s face. Some other children painted Mrs McLaren’s face and the dinner ladies. Everyone looked great.

After our assembly we got to make red nose faces on paper plates. They were bright red with glitter and they look amazing.

We really enjoyed the bake sale and hope that we have raised a lot of money.

Our Assembly

Today was P3s Assembly. It was fantastic. We have been working really hard over the last 2 weeks to learn our word and songs. Some of us had costumes to wear and they looked really good. Miss McGregor very proud of us all as we worked so hard. We hope you all enjoyed our assembly and learned something from us.

Fractions

We have been learning about fractions. A fraction is an equal part of a shape, a number, a thing or a group. We know how to get a half and a quarter. There is a trick to finding a quarter you half it then half it again.

We looked at tenths, to find a tenth you divide by 10. Each part must be equal.

We also put fractions on a number line. We did this with halves and quarters, this was a bit tricky to do.

Some of us find it easier to work out fractions of shapes while the rest of us found it easier to work out fractions of numbers.

Our Birdhouse Challenge

We have been very busy bees in Primary 3. We got an exciting letter from Percy the Pigeon; he was looking for a new home. We all wrote letters back to Percy with ideas for a new home for him.

Then last week Mrs Woodward gave us a challenge. She asked us to find a home for the birdhouse in the school garden. We investigated and explored the garden and came up with 3 suggestions. We then wrote another letter to Mrs Woodward with our suggestions. Today we received a reply from Mrs Woodward and she thought our second suggestion, which was at the top of the stairs in the infant’s playground, was the best.

We asked Mr Mason, the janitor, to help us and we took the birdhouse outside and placed it in its new home.

We are going to put bird seed in the birdhouse for all the local birds and Percy. –Violet

We have learned how to explore the playground and find the bets place for the birdhouse. The top of the stairs is good because no children can get near the birdhouse. –Jenna

We put the birdhouse beside the mud so Percy can eat worms. –Paul

We learned what birds like and what they dodn’t like. They don’t like cats and they like being near worms. –Hannah

We learned how to write a letter. –Calum S

You need to put a letter on an envelope. –Katelyn

You need to write who the letter is for and their address on the envelope. –Aaraa and Elliot

You need to put a stamp on the envelope.- Abigail

You need to write your address at the top right hand corner of your letter. –Harris

The postman or postwoman will deliver your letter. –Christe

Have a look at the birdhouse in its new home. Please respect the birdhouse and the birds that visit it.

Mr Postman

We are very lucky in P3 to have had another visitor in our class. Mr Ross came in to see us all and told us about life as a postman. He even left us a gift, we don’t want to give away too much though as we will share what we found out in our class assembly. Have a look at our photographs to see what Mr Ross gave us.

Being a good friend

Last week we were discussing what makes a good friend.

We worked in pairs to decide on a word that describes a good friend. Today we used sponges to paint our words onto black paper. These will look great when they are dry and Miss McGregor said she will put them on display for everyone to see.

We worked as a team and we took turns with the sponges-Kyle
The sponges were very colourful-Paul
It was good fun painting using the alphabet sponges-Eva
The colours we used were yellow, pink, purple, blue and orange-Robyn
We had lots of fun making the coloured writing-Melanie Grace
We used black paper and the colour stood out-Alfie
The colours look really pretty on the black paper-Hannah
A good friend never gives up on you-Aaraa
A friend is kind, helful and makes you laugh-Abigail
Good friends play with each other-Calum S
Friends believe in each other-Christe

Learning our tables

This week we have learned our 2, 4 and 8 times tables.

To do our 2 times table we just doubled the numbers-Jenna

We doubled our 2 times table to get our 4 times table-Violet

I learned that you double the number you are multiplying 3 times to get your 8 times table-Aaron

Some of us learned the 16x table, you double the number 4 times to get the 16 times table-Ashton and Eva

I learned that the 4 times table was doubling the number twice, it was quite easy-Alfie

We learned our 2 times table. We know that you add on 2 each time-Joey, Katelyn and Elliot

Dividing is the opposite of multiplying-Calum S

We can now do our fact family with our 2 times table-Robyn

We will need to do lots of work to learn our times tables, we know that we can play some fun games like Buzz and Around the World to help us.

Super sandwiches

Today we made some delicious sandwiches in class as part of our bread topic. We made cheese sandwiches and tuna sandwiches. They were lovely.

First we had to spread the butter and cream cheese on our bread, we also added cucumber, which we tried to slice nice and thin. After we added our topping we cut our sandwiches into half and then quarters. We tried to keep some to take home, but they were very tasty.

Here are some pictures of us enjoying our sandwiches in class.
