lots of new learning

We have been really busy over the last few weeks. We had a lovely morning where we tried out some games that Katie Morag could play instead of Chickenelly. We had great fun working together and thinking of better games so she didn’t get into trouble we played games that Grannie Island played when she was a girl like ball, helicopter, skipping and we even made our own mini beach. We then wrote fabulous recounts of our fun morning and sent them to Katie Morag.

In maths we have been extremely busy:

Brooklyn – We have been learning how to tell the time, half past and o’clock times.

Charlotte – We were trying to do some clock in digital times and they were really hard for some of us.

Leah – In maths we have been learning hours on our clocks and for some of it has been a bit tricky but a lot of us are getting there.

Fractions with ‘Fantastico Fraction’!

Lucy – In maths we had been learning about fraction. We split a shape into a half and a quarter.

Lewis – We have also been learning chimney sums, we put the 2d number at the top and then the 1d number at the bottom and write the equals and find out the answer.

Look at our wonderful  rolling, jumping and balancing skills in gymnastics!

Lilly D – One group were learning to do forward rolls.

Alaina – We had to tuck our head into our chest and put our hand on the mat and rolled over.

Katie – We were jumping onto the horse box and when we finished we did a nice jump off the end.

Kelise – I enjoyed learning to do the sausage rolls.

Oor Scottish Week

Last week we were busy measuring the weight of an apple using balances. We used non – standard units.

Lewis  – We measured an apple and wrote the answer on how heavy it was using balances and cubes, domino’s, crayons and paint brushes.

This week we have also enjoyed all things Scottish. We have learned the song, ‘three craws’. We read the story ‘Katie Morag and Tiresome Ted’. We also had a mini Burns Supper  and had the opportunity to try some delicious Scottish food.

Leah – I liked when we had the Burns supper because it was nice.

Kelsie – I loved the Burns supper, because we loved the irn bru.

Katie – I liked the Burns supper because it was really exciting.

Alaina – I didn’t know I liked the haggis but I liked it.

Sonny – I never knew I liked the Scotch broth soup but I did.

Lilly d – I didn’t know that I liked the salted porridge.

Charlotte  – I liked trying the irn bru.

We have also been working on subtraction and have been applying our taking away skills using number line games. We even made our own board game and have been writing instructions in Literacy about how to play it.

Olivia D – We were playing alien flip ups and it was helping us to take away.

Aaron – We made up a new board game with take away sums on it, we had to use the highest number first.

Measuring our classroom

Apologies, a reminder letter for collection arrangements for tomorrow evenings concert  was not issued today to P2. This is information that has been given before, It has also been tweeted, electronically e-mailed and is on the school website.

In other news in P2, we have been busy learning to measure the length of different objects using different units. Take a look at some of our learning.

Spooky things in P2

We have been reading Room on the Broom for Halloween this week but while we were all having fun at the disco last night a witch came in and made a potions den in our classroom!

Some of us have had fun playing in it when we finished our work.

Brooklyn – The witch decorated our classroom.

Zoe  – The witch put spider webs on the computer.

Katie – We got to play in the potion lab and when we were playing we got to make potions.

She wrote us this letter –

So we wrote some narrative stories for Taught Writing today. We have put them in the potions lab for the witch to choose the star writers this week!

We also got to explore the choosing den this week. We have got lots of new games to play when we finish our work. They help us spell our common words and phoneme words.

Zoe  – It helped us learn  our common words.

Aaron –In the choosing den we all liked the toys there.

Charlotte – We really liked playing with all the new toys.

In Numeracy we have had fun learning some new games to help us with our place value.

So far we know how to play football manager, big winner, 2 in a row, pirate place value and lots of other games. We particularly enjoy playing guess my number as a whole class. Sonny showed us how to be successful learners –

Sonny – You have to ask if the tens or units are higher or lower numbers because I guessed on my 4th question.

img_08651 img_08661

Kyle – You have to make and break the number using the tens and the units cards

img_08691

Katie – The number 12 was trying to catch us out but I know its 10 + 2 = 12 now

We had to put our hands on our heads and the first pair finished got some treasure.

Miss Langridge is making guess my number more challenging by only allowing us to ask 10 questions. It is making us more confident with understanding how our 2 digit numbers are made using tens and units.

Blue Dot is our spot!!

Today we went out to find out where the dots are!

We had fun looking for the blue dot, some of us already knew where it was.

img_29571

Iona – “remember to always stand at the blue dot if you are going to that gate”

Amelie – “Remember it’s just the blue dot”

img_29581

Lily C – “The blue dot has our class (P2) on it”

Millie – “it is a very very blue dot.”

img_29601

Zoe – “we need to stand there when we are waiting for them”

Lucy – “we all know where the blue dot is”

img_29611

This was to help the children that get picked up here. We know some of us get picked up at the other gate nearer our classroom but it was good for us all to see where we go if our adults tell us to go the the blue dot.

Kiara – “our parents need to stand there because they don’t need to stand at the gate in the playground because the dots are not there”

Alaina – “and we always know where our adults are”

Brooklyn – “we always need to go to the blue dot if we have been told to”

Olivia C – “you don’t go with a stranger we need to come back to a teacher in the school” (if our adult is not there to pick us up)
