Being Healthy Cooks

Primary 2 have been busy preparing all kinds of healthy food over the last 2 days, so much so that we managed to make a 3 course meal. We started with potato and leek soup, then healthy pita pizzas and to finish we had some smoothies. It was important we followed good hygiene rules. First we washed our hands and we used antibacterial gel to make sure our hands were clean. Then we took off jewellery, tied our hair back and wore aprons. We developed our cooking skills by keeping safe when we used the children’s cooking knifes. We worked in small groups with the teacher and used the bridge technique to cut all of our fruit and vegetables. This means we have to glue our fingers together and put the knife through our bridge so that we don’t cut our fingers. Look at how neatly we cut our food. We had to put the fruit in the freezer over night so our smoothies were nice and cold.  In the afternoon the soup was cooked by an adult during our lunch time and then we got to taste it while we were making our healthy pita pizzas shapes/faces. Lots of us have tried some new foods like basil, oregano and spinach to name a few. We had a mango, pineapple and banana smoothie, a strawberry smoothie and a mango, pineapple, banana and spinach smoothie. Miss Langridge was surprised that the most popular smoothie was the green spinach smoothie, looks like P2 have all turned into popeye this week! They have definitely grown taller with all their healthy eating and are ready to be big P3’s! Smoothie recipes will be added along with smoothie pictures on Monday if you wish to make any of them at home with an adult!

Sports Day

Today was sports day. We had great fun and are glad it was nice weather. We really enjoyed encouraging P1a and P1b, they all did so well. We were able to demonstrate some of the athletic skills we have been learning in P.E to all the adults that came to watch us. Thank you for coming to cheer us on. Miss Langridge is proud of everyone for taking part. The children also wanted to say a big thank you to Mrs Fleck for organising it for us, she did a great job!

We have also been naming different parts of our bodies and have been discussing what their job is and why it is important to look after them. We started with singing and acting out head, shoulders, knees and toes then we challenged ourselves to sing it in German kopf, schulter, knie und zeh.

Beat the Street

Yesterday we were being active and we Beat the street. It didn’t take us very long so we even had time for a little play in the play park on our way home.

We also thought about our daily morning and nighttime routines we have to help us look after our body. We worked in two teams to sort these out as fast as we could and we all won some Dojo points for super team work. We discussed what could possibly happen to our bodies if we didn’t have these routines. We will be designing a warning sign to warn people about the problems that could happen if they don’t follow routines to take care of their health and wellbeing.

Bikes and Scooter Day

Today was the first day of health week and Primary 2 were asked to bring in their bikes or scooters. The weather was not great but that did not stop us having fun!

Some of us crashed into each other but we were all very brave and got straight back on our bikes. It showed us that it is important that we always make sure we have our helmets on to protect us just in case we bump our heads, thankfully this didn’t happen today.

The children that did not have a helmet or bike didn’t miss out, they had lots of fun playing various indoor games. Here are some pictures of us having fun on our bikes with P1a and P1b.

We will share more of our Health week activities throughout the week, watch this space!

Remember it’s beat the street tomorrow, so bring your fobs and sensible shoes and jackets!

P2’s Very Hungry Caterpillars

We have been busy looking after our caterpillars. They arrived a week and a half ago and we helped to put them into their little tubs. We have been watching them carefully, first they grew from caterpillars, then into chrysalis and we got a lovely surprise today, 3 of them have turned into butterflies. We also decorated some butterflies that Lucy and her mum made for us and have been creating some wonderful flower art from what a butterfly or insect might see.

Aaron – The caterpillar was moving because if an animal in the wild tried to eat it then it would wiggle.

Sonny – We did some work because the caterpillars were in a big tub and we had to get a paintbrush to move them into our own tubs.

Katie – When Miss Langridge opened the tub of caterpillars some of them tried to get out.

Brooklyn – My Caterpillar fell onto the table.

Lewis – Most of the caterpillars are turning into chrysalis, ready to make a change into butterflies.

We hope our adults can come to visit them on Tuesday during the Art Exhibition. We are excited to show you them. Look at the pictures of us looking after our caterpillars.

Busy first week back!!

This week we have been really busy learning lots of new facts in maths. We have even started our new P2 Big Maths Beat that Challenges, Miss Langridge will maybe even give us some Dojo points if we beat our score each week!

We also got to use the laptops this week but we were so busy we forgot to take pictures. We will take some next week. We learned lots of new skills on the laptop, switching them on/off, finding a new program called Word, typing and changing the writing size and colour.
