Adventure in the Gym Hall

Today we got to go on an Obstacle Course in the gym hall. We were feeling very very excited.

When we went into the hall first of all we met helpers Chris and Lee. Lee told us what to do and Chris showed us what to do.

We had to climb over a wall. Some of us found it easy but some found it hard. Some boys and girls got over it without help!

Next we climbed up a triangular scramble net, it was very high.

After that we had to cross the tight rope bridge. You had to have good balance to get all the way across. Then there was the plank bridge and we had to jump off it.

Next it was the swinging rope and then through the tyre. Last of all you had to run through the tyres.

P1/2 really enjoyed it. We thought it was amazing, fantastic, awesome and fandabidossy!

Desert Artwork

This morning we have been very busy making Cacti. We were not growing them we were making them in art.

To start we got two bits of paper one blue and one green. Then you had to draw around a cactus template on the green paper and cut and stick on to the blue paper.

After that we used PVA glue and sand shakers. To stop us making a big mess we did this in trays and Eilidh very kindly helped to fill the shakers.

Before we finished we had to put spikes on our cactus. We used a fork with yellow paint and we dabbed it on our cactus. Last of all we painted a sun because the desert is sunny and hot.

Please come and visit us to see our fandabbydosey artwork!

Fantastic at Fractions

We have been busy learning all about Fractions. We all know about halves and that they can be written in numbers like 1/2. We can find half of a shape by splitting or cutting it into two equal halves which means they both need to look the same. P2 know that to find 1/4 of a shape you need to spilt it into 4 equal parts and this can be a bit trickier.

image image image image

We also know how to half a number. We worked with a partner to half some even numbers up to 30. Miss Kinloch taught us a trick, ‘one to me and one to you’. We know that both people should end up with the same number. P2 are going to be learning how to 1/4 a number very soon!

Exploring the desert

Today we started our new topic World Explorers. We started by looking at the desert environment. We thought up some words to describe how the desert looks and would feel if you were there. Some really good words were dry, sunny and very hot.

To show off our learning about the desert we created our own pic collage. We learned how to save a picture from the internet. We are very good at using QR codes to get on the internet using the ipads. We worked hard to add words, pictures and background. Here are some pictures of us working hard on our new topic.

Stepping into Spring

This week we went on a Spring walk in the Playground we went because we were looking for signs of Spring. It is nearly Spring Time and we are learning all about it.

We found some interesting signs such as, ladybugs, centipedes, butterflies, daffodils and some spring showers.

We have a visitor in P1/2 for Spring Time. His name is Chryston Ted and he wants to go on Spring Adventures with us. We bought him new clothes as he didn’t have any clothes for Spring. He has already been to visit Mrs Woodward’s house and found some bulbs in her garden. We are feeling happy and excited about Chryston Ted coming home with us. Look at some of our pictures with Chryston Ted.

We hope you like P1/2 new visitor as much as we do.

Making Pancakes for Pancake Day

We know today is not Pancake Day it was really last Tuesday. We could not make them then because it was a holiday.

We make pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Before Easter Christians give up something they like such as sweeties or chocolates for Lent. On Easter Sunday Lent finishes. Just in time for the Easter Bunny!

To make our Pancakes we needed ingredients eggs, flour, sugar and milk. We were very lucky that Mrs Hadden could come and help us.

To keep ourselves safe in the cooking area we…

  • washed our hands.
  • stayed away from the hot pan.
  • listened to the teacher.
  • wore aprons.
  • had to tie our hair up if we are a girl.

To check if the pancakes were ready to flip we looked for little bubbles.

We let the pancakes cool down so they would not burn our mouths.

We got to top our pancakes before we ate them. We could have syrup, icing su

gar, honey, butter or jam.

We thought our pancakes were delicious and awesome!

Some people didn’t like them so they gave them to a friend.

Have a look at our pictures of us making and eating our Pancakes.

All Emotional in P1/2

Yesterday afternoon we learning all about our emotions. We already knew lots of emotions from the film Inside Out. There is Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Joy and Fear.

First of all we shared how we were feeling. Emotions are inside our heads or brains and we feel them. Then we went into groups and we chose which emotion we would be.At our table we drew our Emotion Character from the film.

At the painting station we got letters and with blu tack we stuck them on a piece of paper. Then we used a sponge and paint to cover the paper. When we pulled off the letters the words were still there in white.

Miss Kinloch came around with her camera she asked us to make the face of our emotion. If you’re reading our blog can you guess which emotion we are showing?

Thank you for reading, from P1/2!

Our Class Trip to the Kelpies

Today Primary 1/2 went on a class trip to The Kelpies in Falkirk. We were all very excited when we saw them from the bus!!

imageFirst of all we went we inside the brand new visitor centre! We met our tour guide and were able to share lots of our learning and found out some new parts of the Kelpie story. We had to work in groups to design our own shape shifting Kelpies.

Then we went for a walk up to the Kelpies. We were very lucky and got to look inside. The Kelpies were made by a man called Andy Scott and the Kelpies are called Duke and Barren. We were inside Duke. They are 30 metres high and weigh the same as 100 elephants! We learned they are made of metal so they won’t rust even after 100 years!!! When the real Duke and Barren came to visit they left a horse shoe. The horses feet are so big that we can fit both our feet inside!

We got to eat our lunch in the visitor center which was lovely and warm and then we got to go to the AMAZING Swing Park!

Exciting Learning in P1/2!

This week we have been learning more about Scottish Myths and Legends.

We made a Loch Ness Monster Postcard. We pretended we were sending the postcard from Loch Ness to Mrs Woodward. The postcard was special because we made Nessie pop up.image

On Wednesday we wrote a story about Looking for Nessie. Our stories were made up we know they are Narrative!

We had some exciting news this week. Primary1/2 are going to the Kelpies on Tuesday! We are very excited. We are counting the sleeps in class!

On Friday two statues appeared in our classroom. They are little statues of the Kelpies. We really like having them as a treat!image

We watched a film about the Kelpies Story. We found it a little bit scary! We know that the story isn’t real and it was made up to scare boys and girls away from the lochs a long time ago!

We are looking forward to going to the Kelpies next week!!
