Rosie Little visited our class to demonstrate the technique involved in creating different tones of felt from wool. We started by layering the wool horizontally and then vertically and finally covered the material with bubble wrap. The next step involved applying pressure to the layers whilst sprinkling with water and fairy liquid. We then rinsed the soapy mixture out from the material and rolled with a rolling pin. The final product will be cut into poppies and made into hair clips and brooches to sell as part of our social enterprise company “In Poppies We Trust.” Thank you to Mr Semper for helping us design our swish business cards for our venture! Here are a few photographs of the class making the poppies.

Leaf Identification
Here are some of our latest outdoor adventures with the Forestry Commission. First of all we were set the challenge to identify a number of different leaves using the leaf identification cards. Next, Andy asked us to spell out the word of each leaf using only leaves from that particular variety of tree. Finally the task which we loved the most involved us working in teams to plan, create and build a mini den in the woodland area where we visit our outdoor classroom. Some groups took this task extremely seriously and the healthy competition for the most elaborate den was quite apparent!
Waste Free Lunch
As part of Primary Seven’s homework challenge, the pupils were asked to reduce the amount of waste brought to school with them in their packed lunch. Litter Lynsey and Recycling Robert popped along to assembly to remind our pupils about different types of litter and the impact it can have on our environment. We decided as a class to try and see which class member could come to school with the least amount of packaging in their packed lunch. The pupils had a brilliant time discussing what they had changed within their packed lunch to make it more environmentally friendly. We even ate our lunch in our very own WW2 Anderson Shelter!
Spooky Enterprise Treats
The Enterprise Committee worked hard to make lots of spooky Halloween goodies to sell to pupils. The profit will be used to organise and host a school event later in the year. We all look forward to what the Enterprise Committee are secretly planning!
