Pi Day is celebrated on 14th March around the world and Calderhead High School enjoyed some fun ‘pi’ activities.
Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. The BBC produced a great guide to pi (t.co/wvwpvzl4vP).
Calderhead High School celebrated World Book Day with a number of fun activities. Classes showed off their literary knowledge by participating in a book quiz, our new book group was launched in the library and the World Book Day tokens were distributed.
Staff and pupils at Calderhead High School participated in their very own Strictly Come Dancing competition on 16 December. The standard of dance was extremely high so congratulations to our winners, Mrs Buchanan and Mr Russell.
A special thanks to Santa who took time from his busy schedule to come along.
James Erskine, the Earl of Mar and Kellie and Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords, visited Calderhead High School to speak to senior Modern Studies students on Friday, 20th November, 2015.
All National and Higher Modern Studies pupils study the role of the House of Lords as part of their Democracy in Scotland and the UK unit. This visit was organised as part of the Peers in Schools project run by the House of Lords.
Calderhead High School S5 and S6 pupils organised a Christmas Fayre, which took place in the school on Saturday, 21st November 2015. The event was a great success – there was a café and stalls including Santa’s grotto, tombola, home baking, candles, soaps and many more.
This was done as part of their Personal Development classes and the Fayre raised a fantastic £1,171! Well done to all the pupils and staff who made it such a success. Thank you also to everyone who came along to the Fayre and supported the event.
