Pupils enjoyed special assemblies with Claudius England from Jamaica who used music and story telling as a mean of tellling the history of Jamaica, from slavery to present day.
Claudius also talked about ‘Reclaimed Territory’, an initiative he started in Jamaica working in youth detention centres. This year it is extended to Scotland where Claudius will be visiting most of the prisons in Scotland.
Claudius has been touring a number of local schools and visited Calderhead-Erskine Parish on Saturday night (10th September).
“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” Roald Dahl.
Roald Dahl Day
We’re celebrating Roald Dahl Day in the Library today.
Roald Dahl was born on 13th September and Roald Dahl Day takes place every year on this date.
This year we’re marking 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl and it’s set to be to be the biggest worldwide celebration of Roald Dahl Day ever. Brooke, Ayesha and Murron are revisiting some of their favourite Dahl books – we even have a French copy of the ‘Big Friendly Giant’!
Pupils and staff from Calderhead High will be participating in the St Andrew’s Hospice 6K event on Sunday, 18th September, with a 10.30am start.
We are proud to support St Andrew’s Hospice and this is an opportunity to raise some vital funds for this great charity. Participants can choose to: run, jog or walk the 6k route and can either wear their running kit or crazy fancy dress outfits.
Calderhead High School pupils Andrew Lynch, Morgan Lynch and Jason Prentice all competed at the World Pipe Band Championships earlier this month.
Jason, seen here with his bagpipe teacher, Ross Cowan, is a member of the North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band, which placed 5th in the Novice B category. He competed against bands from other countries including South Africa and Australia.
Every year the school runs a UCAS class which assists our S6 students in applying to University. While the students are given time during the school day we encourage them to complete the application in their own time and for parents to be involved in this process.
A brief information session for parents and carers will be held in the school on Monday, 5th September 2016 at 6pm to go through the process and to allow you to discuss concerns or issues you may have.
Well done to S6 pupil, Caleb Hariri, who attended the Nuffield Research Placements Scotland 2016 Celebration Event at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh yesterday.
