Children in Need 2020

Rounders 2020UPDATE: Well done to Calderhead High School’s  Captains and Prefects team who raised £671.01 for Children in Need!

They organised a dress down day and Rounders Festival for BBC Children in Need on Friday, 13th November. Staff and pupils  braved the inclement Shotts weather to play spirited games of rounders in their year groups and a great time was had by all. Well done to everyone who organised and participated in the fundraising activities.

Tinto Hill Challenge 2019

On Thursday, 16th May, our S1 pupils participated in the Tinto Hill Challenge. This Challenge is open to S1 pupils in Lanarkshire schools and is a great day out for pupils and staff who can fundraise for St Andrew’s Hospice while enjoying the great outdoors and participating in some fresh air, fun, exercise, team work and achievement. Our staff and pupils were lucky to climb Tinto Hill in glorious sunshine and had a fantastic time completing the Challenge.

More than 3000 pupils are expected to take on the Challenge this year and it is an excellent way to raise money for the Hospice.

Well done to everyone who took part.

Outward Bound to Loch Eil

The Outward Bound Trust is a learning charity which equips young people with social and emotional skills through learning and adventure outdoors. Staff and pupils recently attended an Outward Bound Leadership course at Loch Eil Centre in the Scottish Highlands.  The Centre is situated on the shores of the loch, near Fort William, and is the Trust’s most remote outdoor education centre. Shortly after arriving, staff and pupils enjoyed a jog and a dip in the loch, although the water was even colder than expected! They tried a number of different activities over the weekend, including abseiling and hill walking. The Spider’s Web Activity was great fun and everyone enjoyed the toasted marshmallows. Our staff and pupils had a wonderful time and learned much from the experience.

4th Year Achieve Group

Pupils in the 4th Year Achieve Group at Calderhead High School are taking part in a Community Art Project in Shotts Nature Park in partnership with Central Scotland Green Network Trust, CCI Scotland, and Shotts Nursery. The project aims to tidy up and landscape the area, and help make and design an 8ft x 5ft Green Man mask. The pupils will be working  with artist, Shirley Tiscali, and children from the  nursery each week.
