Calderhead High School senior pupils agreed to get together to record their message of hope for everyone affected by the 2021 lockdown. Their message is simple…‘See you again’

Congratulations to Hannah and Zuzia who won the recent S4 Orienteering challenge.A fitting end to term with our Christmas Assembly in the Hall this morning. All the staff and pupils joined together to hear Reverend Murdoch and Mr Robertson talk about the true meaning of Christmas and enjoyed performances from our talented pupils.

Our annual Talent Show took place in the school last night (16th December) with some fabulous acts.
We were really impressed by all the pupils who participated, including Douglas Pinkerton (S4) and Ryley Allan (S2) on the bagpipes, MacKenzie Forrest (S5) who played the drums, Jennifer Wood (S6) and Logyne McAllister (S2) who sang beautifully, Caitlyn Paxton (S5) who sang and played her guitar, and Heather Duncanson (S6) who sang and played piano. However, the joint winners of the Talent Show were Carly Ogilvie (S6) who sang a moving rendition of “When We Were Young” , and the talented gymnastic team of Hannah Duncanson and Zuzanna Mostek (S3).
Special mention must go to the senior pupils who organised, facilitated and judged the talent show.
Well done to all the pupils and staff from Calderhead High School who participated in the St Andrew’s Hospice Lanarkshire Schools 6km event at Strathclyde Park event on Sunday, 15th September to help raise funds for the hospice.
We are very proud of all our pupils at Calderhead High School and were delighted to celebrate their successes at the annual awards ceremony on 19 June 2019. The ceremony was held at Calderhead Erskine Parish Church in Shotts and pupils, staff and proud family and friends attended.
The guest speaker was Kenneth Martin, an architect and former pupil, who gave an inspiring speech and presented the awards. The entertainment was provided by our talented pupils (with just a little help from our excellent music department).
The ceremony started a spirited rendition of ‘The Green hills of Tyrol’ by the Calderhead Pipe Band, followed by a beautiful rendition of ‘Only You’ by the vocal ensemble. Ellyn MacPhee and Jennifer Deighan performed ‘Caledonia’ before the presentation of the awards, which were followed by a performance of ‘Your Song’ by Jack Stewart and ‘Thank you for the Music’ by Emma Elliott. Mackenzie Forrest and Liam McElhinney performed ‘MSR’ and the pipe band ended the ceremony with a rousing ‘Scotland the Brave’. Special mention to Mr Arbuckle, Andrew Hayburn and Jordan Muir, who were our technical wizards on the day.

We are always keen to encourage reading for pleasure at Calderhead High School. As reward for their dedication and hard work throughout the year, pupils from Ms Faulds’ class and the Comic Book Club were treated to a reward trip to Waterstones in Glasgow.
After spending some time in the Harry Potter common room based in the store, the pupils enjoyed choosing a book to keep. This trip was part of North Lanarkshire Council’s ‘Read to Succeed’ initiative.
Comic Club runs in the library every Wednesday lunchtime from 12.45pm and everyone is welcome to join.
Pupils from our cluster primary schools, Dykehead, Stane, Allanton, Alexander Peden and Kirk O’ Shotts Primary Schools, took part in the recent Maths Challenge at Calderhead High School. This was Kirk O’Shotts first time participating in the Challenge so a special congratulations to them.
The Challenge had four rounds: the puzzle round, cross number, stations and relay. Thank you to the S4/5 pupils for helping on the day especially Emma Gilfillan who helped organise and run the event.
Schools from all over North Lanarkshire participated in the 1+ 2 Modern Languages Awards at Airdrie Stadium on 21 May 2019. Congratulations to our pupils who were awarded certificates: Mark, Brodie and Emma, who were awarded the Outstanding Language Learner prize for their respective year groups, and Jack, who was awarded Most Improved Language Learner.
The Modern Languages Department also celebrated success and presented certificates to the Modern Languages Champions in school. Well done everyone!
Congratulations to our S4 Achieve class who recently collected their Dynamic Youth, Saltire and Paths for All certificates in recognition for their hard work within the community. Thanks to Kyrstie and Iain from GBT for their support.
