Welcome to Buchanan High School Web Site.

Introduction about the School by the Head Teacher

This website offers an introduction to our school and a general overview of the education your child will receive at school.

Buchanan High School is a non-denominational school situated in the Townhead area of Coatbridge. It caters for young people with a range of additional support needs. It is a purpose built establishment, built in 2012. It has excellent practical teaching areas and purpose built classrooms. Our provision is enhanced by a superb outdoor space which supports many aspects of outdoor learning. Our school is co located with St Ambrose High School and Townhead Community Centre. We enjoy links with St Ambrose High School and promote activities which foster inclusion and opportunities to share information, resources and good practice. We follow the principles of Curriculum for Excellence: a broad general education in S1-S3 and the Senior Phase in S4- S6. Vocational opportunities are also important in the senior curriculum.

Our overall aim is that all our young people achieve their potential: to gain knowledge, skills and personal attributes. Above all we work to ensure that our young people can be as independent as possible.

School will play an important part in this, but effective education depends on a partnership between home and school. To realise this partnership we actively encourage you to take a full and active part in the life of the school

At present our role is 121 pupils, aged from 12-18, mainly drawn from Airdrie and Coatbridge. Many of our young people are transported to school by local authority buses or by taxi. Some of our older pupils travel independently.

We have a very supportive Parent Council.
