On Friday 15th June, the school welcomed popular children’s author Martin Stewart. First of all, Martin provided an extremely useful workshop on editing to English class 4.1, who have been developing creative writing based on The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He offered insights from his own experiences as a writer, and showed the pupils a number of excellent examples. Martin then visited class 3R, who are this year’s Reading Champions. He regaled them with entertaining tales of his journey from English teacher to professional writer. The pupils all received a copy of his novel Riverkeep, and were engrossed when he read them an extract. Martin was so well received that even when the bell rang for interval, most of the class remained in the library to get their books signed. We hope that Martin will continue to be involved with Braidhurst in the future.
