Our Big Event !!!!!

Today we have been learning about cubic centimetres. We wanted to find out how many cubic centimetres would fill our vegetable planters. It was a real problem solving task. We found out one planter was approximately 243,000 cubic centimeteres in volume. We have also been revising place value of really big numbers so it was a chance to use our learning doing our volume work.
We have a very big event happening today our local MSP Ms Elaine Smith is coming to our school as we have been learning about the Scottish Parliament. We have lots of questions to ask her. BY Alicia and Heather.

THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

On Monday we went to visit the Parliament in Edinburgh. Our topic has been all about the Parliament and the visit taught us so much more. Inside, the building is spectacular. A funny thing happened at the start. We were going through security when the alarm went off for Kai and Blair. We all got a fright. They had to stand with their arms out stretched as a guard used a metal detector to search them. We think Kai’s metal tooth set it off. It was funny when Scott and the boys interviewed the police man on guard duty outside, he was so much taller than us. He has had to arrest people for trying to disrupt the parliament. The police man enjoyed our company and our questions. Blog by Morgan and Kai

Looking forward to Monday !!!

On Monday we are off to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh we are hoping to meet some of our MSPs . We are all very excited and can’t wait.Today we studied a map and we learned where the Parliament is and how far it is from our school. It is 40 and a half miles. We also worked out it should take us about an hour if the traffic is not too bad.
This week we learned the sort of tasks an MSP has to do. We learned lots of new words such as constituents, surgery,Deputy Presiding officer, petitions, case work and First Minister’s Question time. We know that our Deputy presiding officer is our MSP Elaine Smith and she comes from Coatbridge. Today we made up lots of questions. BLOG today done by Blair,Kamil and Scott.

NEW TOPIC STARTED !

This morning we stated our spelling, we worked on learning new spelling strategies. At reading time we learned how to work out tricky words.

RE was fun because Mr Hughes let us handle the new class bibles, the pages were thin and delicate. We can now find the new and old testemants.

Mr Hughes gave us a maths task to find out how good we were at estimating, measuring and recording length. Our new topic is the scottish parliament. We discussed what we know about it and what we want to know, we hope to pay a visit to the parliament. This blog was written by Jennifer Baxter and Euan McMahon.
