What We’ve Been Up To…

Primary 1/2 have been super, duper busy since we came back from our Easter holidays!

We had a lovely time celebrating the King’s coronation! Our friends in the Biggies came to help us make empire biscuits.  It was very hard not to eat them straight away as they looked so yummy! We managed to wait until the afternoon then we tucked into lots of tasty treats at our coronation party. We even modelled the fancy crowns we made for ourselves!

The whole school had an exciting day when we got on a bus that took us all the way to the Forth Bridge Education Centre! We learned all about the amazing bridges we could see and then worked as part of a team to build our own bridges. Our bridges were strong enough to hold lots of cars! Well, toy cars but we did only have paper and sticky tape to build them…

In maths, we were introduced to some little friends; the BeeBots!  BeeBots really like it when you give them directions to follow! We had to think carefully about whether we wanted them to go forwards or backwards, left or right and even clockwise or anti-clockwise.  We had some minor crashes but thankfully no BeeBots were harmed!

We have been learning all about our five senses this term.  We have been using our ears to do good listening and follow instructions.  We also talked about the way that sound travels in waves when we made our own telephones so we could talk to our friends.  We also did a fun smell test where we had to guess what the smell was; there was no peeking allowed! We found lots of smells that we liked and one or two that we weren’t so keen on! Next step; taste testing! 🙂

Fluffy Friends!

We had some very exciting guests at Banton School on Friday as we celebrated Earth Day. Evie introduced us to six friendly little lambs who were ready for their breakfast! We were all very happy to take a turn feeding them; we loved to see their little tails wagging ☺️

A big thank you to Mr and Mrs Marshall for bringing their lambs to visit us and to little Olivia for making sure we all behaved ourselves 😉 We had a lovely morning with you!

Later on in the day we learned about the importance of recycling by reading about a superhero called ‘Michael Recycle’ ♻️ In the afternoon, we went litter picking in our playground. We couldn’t believe how much rubbish we found! We know how important it is to keep our playground tidy and will always make sure to put our litter in the bin.

Shapes and Patterns

Over the last couple of weeks, P1/2 have been busy exploring 2D shapes, 3D objects, tiling and patterns. We’ve explored our classroom and school grounds on the hunt for as many shapes as we could find.  We then sorted some 3D objects into groups depending on their properties and also had a great time creating our own tiling and repeating patterns. Have a look at what we’ve been up to in our video 🟢🟦🔺🟢🟦🔺🟢🟦🔺

Pancakes!

The Banton Bairns had a fantastic afternoon making pancakes with our friends The Biggies! We got to practise our measuring skills before mixing our pancake batter until it was lovely and smooth. The Biggies cooked our pancakes in a hot pan and helped us choose our pancake toppings when it was time to eat. Thank you Biggies! Our pancakes were really yummy!

Watch us make our pancakes here –

Busy Bees 🐝

The Banton Bairns have been very busy recently! We’ve been designing and building rockets, measuring, baking scones, having outdoor learning fun with the Biggies and celebrating Burns’ Day! Watch our video to see what we’ve been up to!

A great big thank you to the Biggies for all their help planning our outdoor learning activities! You are the best big friends we could ask for ☺️

Bairns & Biggies Baking

This morning the Biggies paid a visit to the Primary 1-2.
The Biggies came down to help with baking scones. The classes worked really hard to make some delicious scones. Both classes enjoyed working with each other and eating the scones!
More importantly the Biggies were able to practice their leadership skills. The primary 1&2s learnt about baking and keeping everyone safe in the kitchen. Our maths measuring got a work out too.  Many hands were washed. Everyone used their communications, talking & listing skills too.

Craters

The Banton Bairns had a great time making their own ‘moon dust’ last week. We mixed corn flour and baby oil to make our dust then we spread it out in a tray. Once this was done, it was time to make some craters! We dropped different sizes of rock from different heights and found that bigger rocks make bigger craters. We also found that dropping a rock from a higher height made the crater bigger too! Now we know why there are so many huge craters on the moon! 🌙

P1/2 Outdoor Learning Day

P1/2 braved the blustery weather to enjoy their outdoor learning day. We went on a hunt for different kinds of autumn leaves and sorted them into colours and sizes when we got back to class. We also used crayons to make leaf rubbings 🍂

After break, we went for a walk around the school and down to the park to look for signs of autumn. We founds lots of the things on our list and had some fun in the park when we were finished 😀
